Webisode submission by Luanne diBernardo – First in a ten-webisode series that takes place in Buffalo. After today, an additional webisode will be added each Monday until the series is complete. From Luanne:
HALF TIME is a 10-week webisode that most resembles a cross between Seinfeld and Sex and The City: Seinfeld because of its theme: a show about nothing. And Sex because each episode begins and ends with narratives that connect the themes within.
HALF TIME is basically the time-out conversations had between four characters (three guys, one girl) who gather every Sunday to watch the game.
Incorporating seemingly disparate dialogues that crossover thematically is a challenge when working within a six-minute framework. Even more challenging is developing characters you care about in under six minutes.
I was drawn to this challenge because television is a writer’s medium, and while the internet is the new television, the internet is also a natural magnet for high concept content vs. quality writing and/or character-driven work.
Because I wanted to mimic the sitcom calendar by airing a full season at the time every week, we shot all the episodes within the actors’ two-day window. Every actor was working within respective theatre schedules, and so we were only able to shoot 10 of 13 episodes. The character in HALF TIME who does the VO narrative, is a sport writer, and so his brief observations are delivered in sports metaphors.
Paul Todaro, John Warren, Neal Moeller, and Marcy Savastano comprise Half Time’s ensemble cast. Chris Santucci is Director of Photography, Sound, and Producer. Mark Caragiulo is Director and Producer, and I’m a Writer, Editor and Producer – after 15 years, I returned to Buffalo in 2000 to work on book of short fiction; second web series.
