Last month, during confirmation questioning, Daniel Gundersen, Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s choice for upstate economic czar, received more than a bit of criticism (particularly) from Republican senators for, among other things, maintaining his residence in Saratoga Springs. Critics felt that in order to adequately serve upstate, Gunderson needed to live in an area where the problems were, not in a prosperous tourist community.
Well, it seems Gunderson’s Saratoga living quarters were temporary and he’s moving to an apartment in Elmwood Village at the top of September. The News’ Sharon Linstedt has the story in which Assemblyman Sam Hoyt says, “He’s been working his butt off to learn about Buffalo and the rest of upstate New York and has barely had time to catch his breath.”
Having Gunderson in Buffalo is great news for the area. And practically, the move should grease the wheels of the nomination process.
