How refreshing does it sound, to wander the side streets of Buffalo’s Elmwood Village while the sun kisses your shoulder tops, hand in hand with your sweetheart or alongside your closest friend? When is the last time you brushed against the soft petals of a lily or ran your fingertips along a vine creeping through the brick mortar of an old Victorian home? Do you admire those that harvest their own herbs right in their backyards?
Summer is coming to an end far to quickly to spend the remainder cooped up inside your home. The gardens that your neighbors have planted, trimmed and nourished for the past few months are open to view this Saturday and Sunday during Buffalo’s Annual Garden Walk. Not only will your nose delight in the aroma of fresh flowers and herbs, but your visual appetite will be satisfied as well. These gardens are adorned with fountains, wall murals, sculpture, koi ponds, waterfalls, potting sheds, carriage houses, playgrounds, tree houses and even a putting green that any husband can appreciate.
Plan to stop for lunch at Cafe Aroma/Talking Leaves and mingle with author Amy Stewart. She will be in attendance from 12PM – 1PM for a signing of her book, Flower Confidential. Stewart admits that she possesses a “generalized, smutty sort of lust for flowers,” and you will too after taking the stroll and delving into her humorous and insightful non-fiction work.
The even is free of charge although we do recommend purchasing a copy of Stewart’s book. Maps/guides are available at Dibble True Value Hardware (262 W. Ferry) and Lockwoods Greenhouses (4484 Clark) or at any of the three headquarters the day of the walk. For more information: gardenwalkbuffalo.com.
