A Latex Environment

Dan Shanahan presents Architect, a site specific work, the first week in August. As a follow up to the installation production of Terminus, made for the Central Terminal, Architect creates an artificial environment which is the stimulated externally. Set pieces are enhanced by latex and staged through out the ballroom.
The idea behind the production: A man will enforce a series of rituals in order to generate a mythology, while attempting to manipulate a geometrically closed system. His hope is that it will produce a favorable outcome. Should his mythology collapse, he will have no where left to go but towards his end.
Dan Shanahan, Producer says, “The performers are not dancers but the movements are stylized and there is very little language. It relies on very specific movements that coincide with an established soundtrack. That sound is both imposed upon the production and is also generated by the production. Contact microphones are built into the set so many of their actions result in projected and augmented sound.”
Please note: The site is mostly constructed from latex. The piece itself will be performed on the second floor, and the building has no elevator.
By Dan Shanahan in collaboration with Eric Kanner, Melissa Meola and Kyle Price.
