This year, Buy Buffalo Week and Buffalo Old Home Week make a collaborative effort to highlight local businesses. As part of the festivities and celebration of Independence Day, Buffalo First member organizations will be offering discounts to residents and participants of B.O.H.W. “During the Holidays, big box stores have millions of dollars to sink into advertising their deep discounts. Buffalo First members have come together as a block to have their own sales for Independence Day and the Thanksgiving/Christmas season,” Amy Kedron, Buffalo First, says.
Half of the discounts will be privy to those participating in B.O.H.W. and the other half will be for residents of the community. B.O.H.W. members need only to show their pins and residents should carry the circular, found at www.buffalofirst.org
“The purpose of this special week is to encourage patronage. Economically speaking, the best type of money to have in town is money that wouldn’t normally be here,” says Kedron. “Local businesses re-spend their money within the community so that the tourist money recycles for weeks, months and even years.”
Some of the participants of Buffalo Old Home Week may be looking to return to the area. “We can tangibly demonstrate the cultural and economic value of local businesses,” explains Erin Cala, a board member of Buffalo First.
This weekend, get out into the community alongside those who have an interest in our city and support our local businesses.
