Our fair city has a rich and fascinating history and a wealth of intriguing stories just waiting to be told. Buffalo is home to marvelous parks, exquisite gardens, world-renowned architecture and one of the largest preservation districts in the United States, Allentown.
The Walking Tour Committee of the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site has done its homework and is ready to present an entire new slate of guided walking tours this season. Special event tours include:
Urban Gardens – An Insider’s Look Saturday, July 7th
Artists and Architecture of Allentown Wednesday, August 8th
A New Look at Richmond Avenue Saturday, September 8th
These special tours begin at 10 a.m. and end at 1:30 p.m. The cost is $23 for members and $25 for nonmembers and includes lunch at the Site. Reservations are required. Please call (716) 884-0095.
The Weekly Guided Tours of Historic Allentown will offer another option. Reservations are not required so if the timing is right, just meet at the TR Site for a leisurely walk through the charming streets and Victorian architecture of this historic preservation district. Many new and interesting rehabilitation projects and the area’s unique shops, restaurants, and galleries add to the dynamic life of this neighborhood.
The cost is $4.00 for members and $5.00 for non-members. Every Wednesday in June, July and August 10 a.m.–12:00 p.m. First Saturdays: June 2nd, July 7th, August 4th, September 1st 1:00 p.m.–3 p.m.
Can’t come on a Wednesday? The Walking Tour Committee of the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site is able to provide on request a guided tour of the Allentown district for groups of 8 or more. The Theodore Roosevelt Site is located at 641 Delaware Avenue at North Street with ample free parking in the rear lot, entrance on Franklin Street.
