As the Medical Campus grows, so does the challenge of navigating it. That’s why a handy brochure has been making the rounds – to not only promote the campus, but to pinpoint the businesses that serve those working on and visiting the campus.
Amy Schmit, Associate Director BNMC, explains, “We printed 30,000 (and only have about 1,000 left!) They went into all of our institutions, and into neighborhood businesses and some public officials’/agency offices. The goal was to promote local businesses and services among employees, while getting the word out about the BNMC. The artist that drew up the map was Seth Triggs, a super creative guy. And the graphic designer was the extraordinarily talented Rebecca Murak. This is the first time we’ve done something like this, but we envision updating/redoing it every couple of years.”
At a recent forum held at the Karpeles Manuscript Museum, UB professor Robert Shibley talked about the problem of directionals on all three campuses. That was only part of the problem. The other part was the ability to identify amenities surrounding the campuses. These types of brochures are very beneficial when attempting to create identities beyond the insular districts. If an employee picks up a brochure and finds a place to have clothes dry-cleaned, or a restaurant nearby, then the initial investment into a map is well worth it. The BNMC map is also available in PDF form on the BNMC website (with business listings).
