How does an artist create a work of art? See some of Buffalo’s most celebrated artists in action, and view artwork that will be featured in the upcoming Allentown Art Festival.
6 – 7 PM: Curator’s Lecture: James Turrell and the Magic of Seeing
The Albright–Knox Art Gallery recently purchased a work by James Turrell. Join Associate Curator of Contemporary Art Claire Schneider to experience this installation, and discover Turrell’s special way of viewing light with a journey through the artist’s history of seeing.
7 – 10 PM: Nickel City Poetry Slam with Bill MacMillan
Join us for the second season of the Nickel City Poetry Slam series, hosted by Gabrielle Bouliane and Just Buffalo Literary Center. Featured poet Bill MacMillan is the founder of the Worcester Poetry Slam and Poets’ Asylum, was featured in the documentary film SlamNation, and was a member of the 1996 National Poetry Slam Championship Team from Providence, Rhode Island. His work has appeared in The Boston Globe, The Providence Journal, Worcester Magazine, and Omnivore Magazine. Registration will begin at 7 PM. Its the last chance to get into the finals next month, so come and watch the fur fly! This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts.
