There’s still some snow out there, but the sun is shining, and the air is crisp and clean. It’s a day that makes being outside a pleasure. So do yourself a favor…perform your morning ablutions, gather up a few friends or relatives, and head to Hertel Avenue.
First stop, Restaurant 1207. Jerry is a master behind the counter, and Linda is a joy. Food and happiness, happiness and food: it’s all one in the same to me. Sure you can cook your own eggs, but try making those home fries to absolute crispy perfection…and smiling while you do it!
One other thing–I don’t buy bacon because the act of doing so constitutes a premeditated act, causing me much guilt. On the other hand, all of that angst is taken care of at 1207. “I’ll have two eggs, over easy. Whole wheat toast. Home fries, burn ’em. Oh, yeah…and bacon.” How easy is that?
I can’t iron a paninni, and I don’t have a hot chocolate machine that whips the brew into a frothy frenzy. When my children bitterly remind me of these things, we head to 1207 and Jerry and the girls are happy to oblige.
After breakfast, take advantage of the closely spaced shops that you can hop in and out of without even cooling off. Today…I think we’ll visit Second Reader Bookshop at 1419 Hertel, and Avenue Book Exchange at 1211 Hertel (both will be featured in March’s BRM), and I’ll scour every antique store in between to see if they have any new vintage rhinestone pins–all the better to reflect the beautiful sunshine.
