While some of you maybe aware of Mercury Rev and Moe, (bands who got their start at UB and toured the world), you may not be aware of Piano Duo Bugallo-Williams featuring Buffalo ExPat/UB Grad Amy Williams, and UB Grad Helena Bugallo.
See BWPD present a program of contemporary works for one piano, four-hands at The Church’s Asbury Hall on Saturday, March 31 at 8pm as they return to Western New York after seven years.
The Duo has been dedicated to performing new works and masterpieces of the 20th and 21st centuries since the group was founded in Buffalo in 1995. Both pianists studied with the late pianist/composer Yvar Mikhashoff at the University of Buffalo. They have since performed at major contemporary music festivals throughout Europe and the Americas. Their debut CD of the complete works for solo piano and piano duet of Conlon Nancarrow was released in 2004 to great critical acclaim. Their second CD, all works by Igor Stravinsky, will be released in January 2007, also on the Wergo label.

The Duo, with the support of the Yvar Mikhashoff Trust for New Music, has commissioned David Lang to write a piece, entitled “gravity/after gravity”, which will receive its world premiere at this concert. Lang is co-founder and co-artistic director of New York’s legendary music festival, Bang on a Can. The program will also include works by Conlon Nancarrow, Igor Stravinsky, Reinhard Febel, Morton Feldman and Amy Williams.
