Looks like the 2156 Niagara Street Micky D’s is the first location in Buffalo to see the introduction of the corporation,Aeos new modern-day redesign. This is the McDonald’s restaurant of the future and eventually every location in the chain, 13,000 in total, will see the transformation. I am guessing that most BRO viewers will not fawn over the unveiling, but think back to the broke-down building that this replaced. There’s a funky (for McDonald’s) looking drive-through with updated modern (retro) looking signage, and the big ugly M has been traded up for a swish of sorts. The red, Pizza Hut-looking roofs have been replaced by the same single arch.
I didn’t get a chance to stop in to take a look at the interior, but reports are that the booths are now leather. There are also rumors that these redesigned eateries have updated amenities including flat-screen TVs and WiFi to attract students and professionals. The Niagara Street location (near City Hall) is in line for the new modern design in ’07, and after speaking to Sammy Buscarino (Sammy,Aeos Auto) the other day the local business community is excited for the updated look. Yes, it’s still a McDonald’s and they have not changed the menu (as far as I know). That means that the ‘two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun’ will still be around, though I still wonder if the clientele will diversify the way corporate hopes. McSushi anyone?
