It’s always a blast to see old friends and acquaintances as they return home. On Sunday, September 3rd., an old friend and familiar face to the Buffalo music scene, Dave Schulz, re-convenes the funk/soul party band known as C.O. Jones in their first bar gig in 10 years. What better venue than the Mohawk Place! Rumor has it, last time C.O. Jones played there, the beer ran out and the floor almost collapsed…(just ask Pete, the owner).
Since splitting the Queen City for California, the vocalist/keyboardistis profile as a musician has risen substantially on the national level. After spending several years as touring member of the Goo Goo Dolls, English Beat, and Glenn Hughes (to name a few), as well as a stint as Musical Director for the Onyx rock show in Las Vegas, Schulz currently resides in Los Angeles where he is a highly sought-after studio and live player, producer, and composer.
Schulz also managed to get nominated for Male Vocalist of the Year in the 2005 LA MUSIC AWARDS. He has also teamed up with one of his childhood heroes, Jerry Casale (founder of DEVO), for a release due out in September on the Cordless/Warner Bros label –see www.jihadjerry.com for more info. Dave is also working on upcoming releases by Fuel, Fastball, Eric Sardinas, Mesner, and the Rembrandts.
For the C.O. Jones reunion, Schulz has assembled a virtual all-star cast… Davidis sister Gretchen, a celebrated force on the local music scene in her own right, will contribute vocals, with Geno McManus sharing guitar duties with award winning Buffalo axeman Tommy Z. Bassist extraordinaire Jerry Livingston (also a Rick James alumnus), Jim Bohm and Ken Whitman on horns, drummer Paul Campanella Jr., and bass player Joe Andriaccio will also join forces to help give up the funk. Joining this gathering of old friends is opening act Que Sera, featuring Katherine and Alexis Joyce, two of Dave’s longtime friends.
