Join us in cleaning up our waterways! Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the preserving and restoring the Buffalo and Niagara Rivers, is conducting our AUTUMN BEACH SWEEP, September 15-16, 2006. For the first time ever, Riverkeeper invites ALL volunteers to a post-cleanup volunteer appreciation party (see below):
The 2006 Autumn Beach Sweep will have an estimated 600 volunteers working together to remove tons of debris from over 30 sites across the Niagara River watershed. We encourage community, school, scout, church and private groups as well as individual volunteers to participate in this environmental stewardship effort. It will include sites on the shores of the Niagara River, Buffalo River, Scajaquada Creek (photo), Buffalo Creek, Ellicott Creek, Cayuga Creek, Tonawanda Creek and Como Park Lake.
Volunteers will remove debris from the shoreline and shallows of these waterways, beautifying the community and making the riverbanks safe for wildlife and human visitors. Cleanups will run about 2-3 hours in length.
This is an excellent opportunity to make a difference on the waterway in your neighborhood. Removing trash makes rivers and streams safer and more enjoyable for all of us, and is a great way to get outside and make new friends!
