Last night I ran into “The One and Only Mr. Lance Diamond” (and queenseyes) at The Elmwood Lounge, enjoying the wonderful summer evening. Lance was itting on the patio, while cars driving uptown and downtown honked their horns and shouted, iLance!i The King of Elmwood would then shout back, iI wish I had your money!i Itis amazing to see the number of drivers and passengers waving to Lance, and The King responds to every loyal friend and fan. The corner of Elmwood and West Utica is his throne. This is one man that has this city under his spell.
For a couple of hours we talked about his gigs that he has got going on, recent wedding parties that he has performed at, and his upcoming CD that is currently being mastered and will be available soon. He wants everyone to know that they should catch his radio show on WJYE 96.1 every Saturday night from 6:00 PM to 12:00 AM.
Heis also playing the Seneca Casino in Niagara Falls on Thursday nights. And hopefully you were able to catch one of his Sunday performances at Nektar. This guy has more energy than anyone I know.
queenseyes, Lance and I decided to catch a quick dinner in the neighborhood and Lance suggested that we all go to his favorite spot for food – Louie’s Hot Dogs right down the street. You see, they even have a sandwich named after Lance, the Lance Diamond Chicken Club, and the crew at Louie’s have got it down. queenseyes ordered the Foot Long Hot Dog and a Hamburger with the works. I got the Jumbo all beef hot dog and the sweet potato fries with the honey butter. Almost everyone who walked by us as we ate on the patio shook Lances hand or said helloOe the guy really is eall thati. The food at Louie’s was great as usualOe the only difference was eating with alongside an iconic Buffalo figure.
After QE left, Lance and I hung for a bit, and eventually the lights went off so we knew that they were going to close soon. If I could think of two things that you can count on when visiting Elmwood Avenue they would have to be: a shout out to Lance and Louie’s Hot Dogs. The place has been around since 1951 and is open late (4:30 AM Thursday, Friday, and Saturdays), which is a good thing in Buffalo. Plus they deliver, so how can you go wrong?
