“Demolition by neglect” means allowing rain, snow, and other debilitating agents to infiltrate and slowly undermine one’s property, until the building either falls down by itself or an emergency demolition order is issued.
Take a ride on the East side of Buffalo as we examine some of our unique but neglected architectural heritage. Tour stops include the German Roman Catholic Orphan Home, Sacred Heart Church, Transfiguration Church, and the Wollenberg Grain Elevator (photo). We will be joined at several points by people who live and work in the area to share their knowledge of the buildings, neighborhoods, and problems these buildings present.
The tour ends at Old Editions Book Store where we will have a chance to browse the shelves and share our observations.
The tour takes place this Saturday, September 2, 11:00 AM n 3:00 PM. Meet at the corner of Main Street and Coe Place (across from Delta Sonic and opposite Barker Street). There is a $10 donation for this tour.
Advance registration and bicycle helmets are required.
