That’s the day that co-owners Get Inthalasy and Gary Tenebra are shooting for. I spoke to Get a while back as to what people can expect from this sushi/sake bar on Hertel Avenue. “We’ll have a full kitchen, so we can experiment with foods from around the world. Every country has sushi-esque fare, whether it’s Italian carpaccio, or tartar which is popular in the US, or even ceviche in Central and South America. We’re going to introduce crudo to Buffalo… a food that already taken much larger cities by storm. In essence it’s Italian sashimi (that’s all I need to hear) and it’s the hottest thing going.”
The plan is to serve inspirational food. There is no label for the style – the intention is to bring the culinary worlds a little closer together. Get expresses, “Pangaea is being designed for people who love food. The word itself describes ‘the place’ when all the continents were one. We’ve taken a long vacant space on Hertel and are gutting it before installing an old-world bar with a brass foot rail. That’s going to soften the place up and make the space very comfortable. The sushi bar is being built lower to the ground in order to give the customer a one-on-one connection with the sushi chef.”
That’s all I need to hear. Raw foods from all over the world mixed in with traditional sushi… yum! Of course there will be cooked selections as well, but at the time that I spoke with Get, the menu was still in the works. Pangaea is located at 1260 Hertel Avenue. They just got the number, so here it is: 716-871-7039.
