If only you had been there. And maybe you were. It was Tuesday in Buffalo, but it might as well have been the weekend anywhere else. That’s about the time that I showed up at the Royal Pheasant on Forest. And there was Stephanie, sitting outside the supper club, sipping a beer, waiting for a friend… in her pink flamingo slippers. I could stop right there and you might be happy. I know I was. But the story doesn’t end there.
Upon walking inside, I was greeted by the sound of live music being played by the duo, John and Mary (formerly of the 10,000 Maniacs.) This was turning out to be a stellar night. As if Sushi at Kuni’s Sushi Bar was not enough to begin the night! It was then that I ran into three writers from Buffalo Rising Magazine. I barely got a word off to Peter before the other two, Sujin and Kevin, jumped in to join the fray… of musicians that is. So I was momentarily left to my own devices/vices…being catered to by Jay, one of the most notorious bartenders in the city. It was at that moment that a remote controlled car came buzzing in through the front door with it’s owner, Amy, in tow. I am not kidding you. I am now in a bar with pink flamingo slippers running around, ex-members of the 10,000 Maniacs playing at a feverish tempo, a remote control car zipping around my feet, and I am surrounded by friends. I know that we tend to glamorize this city a bit. But this was not glamor. This was was what it was. It was an average night in Buffalo. Anyone that lives here (or has lived here at one point or another) can attest to it. Buffalo has a nightlife that is unlike any other city on the planet. You will never find a nicer, happier, more outgoing, bunch of ‘regulars’ anywhere else… on the planet.
Buffalo Rising
Sometimes the authors at Buffalo Rising work on collaborative efforts in order to cover various events and stories. These posts can not be attributed to one single author, as it is a combined effort. Often times a formation of a post gets started by one writer and passed along to one or more writers before completion. At times there are author attributions at the end of one of these posts. Other times, “Buffalo Rising” is simply offered up as the creator of the article. In either case, the writing is original to Buffalo Rising.
