Snow Food

January 27, 2007 will be the 30th Anniversary of the infamous Blizzard of 1977. The local convivium, or chapter, of Slow Food USA will be hosting its first annual Snow Food Buffalo event at Kleinhan’s Music Hall to commemorate the event Buffalonians still talk about.
The evening will begin at 6:00pm with a buffet dinner at Henry’s, the classic dining establishment located in the lower level of Kleinhan’s Music Hall. The dinner will consist of seasonal, regional fare, perfect for a cold snowy night in Buffalo. Slow Food Buffalo has worked with Buffalo’s own Oliver’s Restaurant, Management Company of Henry’s, to create a menu that will take away any chills we might be experiencing. A selection of salads, entrées and a fabulous dessert display will get you “warmed up” for the rest of the evening. Any alcoholic beverages at dinner are optional, a cash bar will be available. After dinner, guests will have a leisurely walk up to the main Concert Hall to enjoy a performance featuring the music of “Buffalo Legends” with composer David Shire and Friends.
Oscar and Grammy winner and multiple Tony and Emmy nominee David Shire conducts and performs selections from the remarkably varied music he has written for stage, screen and recordings. He will be joined by Broadway’s Lynne Wintersteller and Buffalo’s own Mary Kate O’Connell and Bobby Militello.
Available that evening will be autographed copies of The Blizzard Cookbook by Slow Food Member Kitty Turgeon. Kitty wrote the book in 1977 after the legendary storm as a survival manual for future weather-related events. Proceeds from the sale of the book will go to the Foundation @ Roycroft, which hosts various educational programming events that are specific to the history of the Arts & Crafts Movement in Western New York.
Cost of Snow Food Buffalo is $77 per person which includes dinner, tax, gratuity and priority seating (section A) for the concert - a $98 value. This event is expected to sell out. Call Slow Food Member, SandyStarks at 716-839-5150 today to reserve your space or visit www.slowfoodbuffalo.org.
