Peanut Butter and Jelly Soup

chocolatewefwr.jpg
You might remember a while back when we covered the peanut butter burger at Empire Grille? Well, The Chocolate Bar has just introduced peanut butter and jelly soup. Yes, it may sound a bit odd, but we tried it last night and can honestly say that if you like peanut butter, then you'll love this soup. Executive Chef Willy Pembleton concocted the dish, and he told me that on their first day of serving it (yesterday), he served up ten orders. "People really liked it," he told me. "I added bruleed bananas and buttered wheat toast points for dipping... plus I threw a marshmallow in for good measure."

The peanut butter and jelly soup had a small hint of jelly, but the peanut butter stole the show. Served hot and creamy in a large bowl, this has to be one of the more unique experimental dishes in the city - right up there with Coda's unusual flavored ice creams. The Chocolate Bar is located at 114 W Chippewa Street in Buffalo. (716) 332-0484

I've had peanut butter soup before but never with jelly------ what favor? Bruised Bananas and peanut butter on buttered rye toast with strawberry jelly is all that my refrig. yields at this hour. Saved my life, great suggestion.

I don't care how great the food at the Chocolate Bar is...they treat their employees like crap. Just look on Craigslist and you will see tons of ads for them. (No, they don't put their name in their ads but I know that it is them.) And no, I am not just a lazy disgruntled employee. I am a former employee who has over 10 years of experience working at top Buffalo restaurants and have never seen a restaurant that treats it's employees just as poorly as the Chocolate Bar does.

Is their food great? Yes. Is their food overpriced? Yes. Is it worth eating there knowing that they can't follow basic labor standards. I don't think so.

Flame away.

the city of illusions, Newell is leading the pack!  Way to go through life?  I'd rather be real..

Were you being intentionally ironic or accidentally idiotic in a post claiming you'd "rather be real" while posting under a pseudonym?

I was very disappointed with "The Chocolate Bar" . As the name implies it would seem to me it should be a hip/sexy place to hang out, instead I found a place that was overly lite, bad service, no music... but a Hockey game on. Felt like I was at a sports bar trying to be a Martini bar. Very sad

if we are positive, good things will happen. if we are not, well, I'm sure even the negative people here can figure out the rest.

you can see more at their website: www.buffalochocolatebar.com

the martinis are great, and for those business minded individuals, they are hosting a business mixer on Feb. 6th starting at 5:30 pm.

Not so new or inovative, and niether is the ice cream. Both ideas have been done.
The Chocolate Bar is a good idea but a weak effort.

It is just another bar on Chippewa

i love the chocolate bar! people need to stop being so critical and negative with the entreprenuers in this city.

porthead January 22, 2007 05:12 PM

try the chocolate port

Beth January 22, 2007 11:33 PM

I have to say I was expecting a lot more of this place. It looks nice inside and the menu "sounded good", but their chocolate martini was one of the most disgusting things I have ever had - it was so thick that it was like drinking cake mix. If you stopped drinking for a few minutes it developed a skin on top, YUCK! The fondue was ok, but nothing special. And I agree, I couldn't believe how obnoxious and sports bar like it felt in there. Creme brulee martini was kinda yummy though.
