Harrys Harbour Place Grille for Dinner

Buffalo’s summers are far too short and you want to make the most of them. So on nights like last night, you want to be outside and if you can combine that with dinner, even better!!! Last night, I met up with my parents and brother at Harry’s Harbour Place Grille on Niagara Street for dinner. My folks rarely come into the city, so when my mom suggested a birthday dinner for my brother and dad at Harry’s, I jumped at the chance to enjoy a great meal and have a view of the river.
The restaurant and atrium were packed. Surprisingly, we were led to the patio, which wasn’t full (it filled up shortly after we arrived). We sat in the shade, since the beautiful Buffalo sun hadn’t quite set yet. We had a cocktail while waiting for our appetizers.

I shared the stuffed banana peppers with my dad. The banana peppers are oven roasted and stuffed with asiago, ricotta and goat cheese and then they’re served over a charred tomato and prosciutto sauce. Absolutely delicious! My brother had the seafood chowder, rich with chopped clams, bay scallops and shrimp. He enjoyed it so much that he didn’t share. Dad also had a bowl of the soup du jour, which today was a butternut squash with andouille sausage, and vegetables. It was filled with flavor and a little kick from the sausage. Mom had the field green salad, topped with strawberries, sugared pecans, onion and blue cheese. What a way to get your greens!
For dinner, I ordered one of the specials. I got the asiago risotto with shrimp, scallops and clams. The risotto came piled in the middle of the plate surrounded by the seafood treats and a sprig of fresh rosemary. The seafood was perfectly cooked with a hint of garlic and butter. I really have to be in the right frame of mind to have seafood…I was not disappointed as it was amazing! Mom chose the dover sole, which had a shrimp, scallop and crabmeat stuffing over a pool of lemon cream sauce, julienned veggies and grilled asparagus. She said it was one of the best seafood dishes she’d ever had! Surprisingly, my brother opted for the steak…he figured he’d sample off of everyone else’s plate. Lastly, Dad had the shrimp and scallops over linguini. His seafood was tossed with artichokes, spinach and tomato concase and the pasta was tossed in a light butter sauce. My dad loves his seafood and found it delicious!
Since we were celebrating two birthdays, we decided we’d need a little dessert. So the four of us split the key lime pie (one of my faves!) and the mocha crème brulee. I’m not usually one for crème brulee, but throw some mocha in it and it’s a keeper. It was divine and quickly disappeared from the table!
There are choices for everyone…meat, poultry, fish and even a vegetarian dish. They have a fairly extensive wine selection (we had a bottle of the Sterling Chardonnay), with lots of reds, whites and champagnes.
My two favorite things about Harry’s? First, the view was just incredible. We watched the sun go down on the river and the sky turned this incredible purple and pink. And my second favorite thing? Instead of dinner mints, they bring you cotton candy with the bill. Where else are you going to get cotton candy? It’s definitely a sweet treat for all at the end of the meal! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal, but the atmosphere (and company, of course) made it even better!
Love this place. Great food and amazing views of the city, lake and marina
