Hitting the Slopes With BRM

Now that we finally have some snow (yahoo!), I thought readers may be looking forward to a little skiing. The following post is an excerpt from BRM’s January issue. Look for the upcoming February issue, it’s a good one!

Skiing in the heart of the city with Campus WheelWorks

Nordic skiing (cross-country, back country and telemark) and Alpine skiing (downhill) are great ways to stay, or get, fit. Endurance, coordination, balance and flexibility are all an important part of these sports, and those that don’t come to the slopes in possession of these skills will quickly develop them.

All forms of skiing build the abdominal muscles, leg muscles (especially hamstrings and quadriceps), and arms. Nordic skiing will give your arms a better workout than Alpine, which mostly benefits the triceps. The average Alpine skier burns between 350 and 560 calories an hour; the Nordic skier comes in closer to 720.

Campus WheelWorks carries everything a skier needs. Whether Nordic or Alpine, renting or buying, you’ll find what you’re looking for here. This is the first year that Campus is carrying Alpine skis. You’ll be hard pressed to find these puppies for sale anywhere else within our vicinity, so Campus is definitely the place to go.

With Cupolos in Niagara Falls, ON going out of business, Campus has a huge opportunity to grow it's Alpine ski business. Many city school ski clubs (Nardin and Tapestry Charter School) referred members to Cupolos for their unbelievable prices (particular yearly ski rental packages).

I am never happy to hear of another Ski or Bike shop going out of business. Two that I have worked at are no longer in business, It is a tough industry. But, we are ready and willing to step up where ever we can to help service the skiers and cyclists of Buffalo. We have made it possible to purchase and service skis here in the city. Now that we've finally got some winter weather I am excited to be becoming more of a part of the winter sports world again, and am looking forward to the opportunity of working with local ski clubs too. Woo hoo!
