Handmade Kaleidoscopes at Thin Ice

While walking along Elmwood today I couldn't help but notice that the holiday windows of Thin Ice gift shop looked rather inviting. I entered the store and was greeted by a menagerie of colorful jewelry that sat behind glass-encased displays. The selection of items at Thin Ice has really grown since the store's opening earlier this year. The merchandise led my eyes to wander from shelf to shelf in search of the perfect holiday gift. Finally I spotted a fantastic grouping of handmade Kaleidoscopes. I immediately picked one up and began to stare through the viewfinder at the falling shapes that danced in front of the nearby lighting. Transfixed, I put the work of art down and picked up the next one, twirling the wands as I watched the miniature show.
The kaleidoscopes ranged in size from small to large and are priced accordingly. Prices range from $40 for a smaller one to $78 for the largest. The handmade colored glass objects are a pleasure to interact with, and no two shows are the same. Just flip the wand back around and the action starts again. Thin Ice may be the only store on Elmwood carrying these creative devices... nice kaleidoscopes can be tough to find just about anywhere. It's good to know where to find one in the city. Thin Ice is located at 719 Elmwood Avenue (at Breckenridge). 716.881.4321
Elmwood Village...Elmwood Village...Elmwood Village...that's all I hear. I love shopping on Elmwood but...Elmwood cool, Allentown hot! Don't forget to check out some of the fabulous new (and old) shops on Allen Street.
Allentown DOES have some awesome shops, but not to compare to the new shops on elmwood. I feel the we should support those who support local artists! plus the set-up of the shop is welcoming, and I've found makes for some clarity in the blur of holiday shopping!
I remember that Allentown had a streak of news. It was Allentown, Allentown, Allentown for three weeks. Even Hertel had a spell with a rash of stores opening. Now back to the topic-- I love kaleidoscopes!
Therese at Thin Ice has done a great job representing local and national artists with her selection of products in her shop. I can't wait to stop In and check out those really cool Kaleidoscopes!
