Being on the ball

After spending plenty of time on Hertel and Elmwood yesterday, knocking down my Christmas shopping list, I mad my way over to the Albright-Knox Gift Shop. It was there that I stumbled across this incredible clock from MOMA. In past years I would be frantically helping other shoppers find the perfect gift... this year I had plenty of time to discover a winner at another shop.

The funny thing about the MOMA (Museum of Modern Art) clock is that normally I would never give someone a clock for Christmas. The design of this working piece of art is what caught my attention. Inside the face is a clock arm that has a magnetic tip. A metallic marble is placed directly on the face of the clock, and as the arm travels around, the ball follows. The gift might not be super practical for someone that needs to know the exact time of day (there is not a minute ball), but for those that appreciate design, and are more concerned about the approximate time... it's a great gift, and it's under 50 bucks.
