Free Key Fridays

If there was ever a day (or an evening) to enjoy an open-house in the city, then Free Fridays at the Albright-Knox has got to be one of the best ongoing events going. The world famous art gallery gives everyone a free pass to explore the treasure-trove of contemporary art inside. Not only that, the planned (and unplanned) activities are more than enough to get your weekend off to a great start. The interesting thing about the Albright is that the gallery is constantly evolving. Every visit brings a new and different perspective, because you always end up searching the various rooms for your favorite pieces. It's like a treasure hunt. Along the way there are always fantastic discoveries awaiting you.
Friday nights are alive with visitors of all ages. There are bands of young hipsters roaming the halls, couples walking hand-in-hand, art buffs wandering from painting to sculpture... it's amazing at just how popular this event has become. The show that everyone came to see last evening was the Andrea Zittel installation called Critical Space (not shown above), which we found ultra-fascinating. It's a show that I might have missed without the Free Friday calling. The show was so unique, and the multi-media aspect was very compelling. It was one of those shows that reaffirms that one should never miss a show at this exceptional gallery, and if there was ever an evening to attend, then it is Friday when your senses come alive and you can mingle with a lively show and its visitors. Here's the upcoming schedule.
