my friend tony g wanted to do some catching up yesterday so he suggested laughlin’s beef and barrel on franklin for a bite to eat. i have been there many a time for the barrel; never the beef. this establishment is vintage mark croce and i am sure has a splash of scott’s (his brother and town back-cracker) input as well. i am sorry if i forgot anyone else who may be part of the l-b+b equation. i must give a shout out to dave sutton and the boyz at dean sutton architects for doing a splendid job with the: maximizing/minimizing/traffic flow/angles/integers/mirrors/ball-bearings and all the other behind the scene crud that i don’t understand.
even though the 2nd floor is really cool, we decided to eat at the bar. julian, the bartender, took great care of us- “good people”, grampa nunciato would say…”good people!”. i had the prime rib sandwich and my friend had the chicken sandwich. we both enjoyed the atmosphere and our eats (i heard that this place cooks up a wonderful burger). i have to give two thumbs up for laughlin’s decor, atmosphere, staff and food. i must say my only disappointment with laughlin’s has to do with the decision to paint over the old brick on the front of the building that spelled out “laughlin’s”. if anyone knows why this was done please post a comment.

restaurant row is just another great option when eating in buffalo. i have to applaud croce’s vision and commitment to buffalo. i have eaten at chophouse only one time and to the chagrin of those who think this blog is nothing but blind rah rah buffalo ramblin’, i actually had a pretty bad experience. my “medium prepared” steak was burnt beyond recognition and the replacement steak was still actually cold (no lie) in the middle. even the lobster bisque that i, at the time, heard great things about, tasted like not-so-warm skim milk. i have met mark a couple of times and always have wanted to say something but he is usually with a hot chick, so i just let it go. i will, however, definitely give them a second shot. i must say that i hear way more good reviews concerning buffalo chophouse than negative.
sorry for the tangent, back to laughlin’s…..i say check it out….have i ever led you astray?
