I have got to say, I am so pleased not to be on the board of directors of Urban Roots Community Garden Center anymore. I am certainly not up to meeting their most recent challenge.
Seems the meatheads at Buffalo ReUse have challenged the members of the garden center to a game of football. In fact, they are so confident about their prowess that they have invited the supporters of PUSH Buffalo and Habitat for Humanity as well.
Let me tell you honestly, I have not watched a football game since I was in high school and I just plain did not know what else to do with myself. I have also never tried to play the game, not to mention that I am not sure I own an appropriate pair of shoes anyway. I might show up to witness the madness though, as it sounds much more appealing to watch my friends pummel each other than to sit in a cozy armchair watching the strangers in the NFL on a TV screen knock heads.
The challenge came from via email this morning from Caesandra Seawell, Buffalo ReUse Logistics Coordinator. She states right up front, “It will be grueling and cold and very macho . . . which is why I’ll be on the sidelines heckling, cheering and eating chili!”
The pitch is for an east meets west rivalry. Seems they are really getting into their new East Side digs. I think they should consider inviting their neighbors at ArtSpace to join in, and the West Side can invite members of Big Orbit Gallery. This could really get interesting.
Also on hand this Sunday during this yet to be determined contest will be hot chili. Sunday, December 16, noon at 298 Northampton Street.
