The movie-making business in Buffalo has been gaining speed as of late, but it’s the fright flicks that have been the glue for the region’s cinematic scene for year. Since many of the lower budget horror movies don’t command the big bucks, Buffalo is an affordable post-industrial mecca for both scream queens and zombies. Plus, who doesn’t love to make a scary, creepy movie? The popularity of these types of movies is what filmmaker and novelist Greg Lamberson (Slime City) count on, which is why Greg and his scream team continue to crank out movies such as his two newest works that are scheduled to be screened in Buffalo – one about a succubus that actually does live under a bed (a widely known fact among youngsters), and another about a legendary monster that only has six fingers total (I understand that the monster currently lives along the Scajaquada Creek). From Greg:
“I wrote, co-directed and co-produced DRY BONES, which stars and was co-directed by Michael O’Hear. Other than co-star Debbie Rochon, who’s appeared in over 200 films, and KevinVanHentenryck, who starred in the cult BASKET CASE films, the cast is comprised of locals, including John Renna, Kathy Murphy, Robert Bozek and Kim Piazza. It’s a horror comedy filmed primarily in Cheektowaga, Buffalo and Medina.
“I produced THE LEGEND OF SIX FINGERS, which was written, directed, shot and co-stars Sam Qualiana, who made SNOW SHARK: ANCIENT SNOW BEAST. It was filmed in Royalton, outside Lockport, and co-stars Andrew Elias. Debbie Rochon and Lynn Lowry co-star, and Tim O’Hearn from Binghamton. It’s a “found footage” film about two documentary filmmakers searching for a legendary Bigfoot-like monster with three fingers on each hand. No trailer is available yet, but we’ll have one before the Screening Room dates.
“We’re holding a double feature world premiere of two locally made features, DRY BONES and THE LEGEND OF SIX FINGERS, at the Market Arcade Film and Arts Center on Thursday, Sept. 26th. Doors open at 7 pm, DRY BONES starts at 7:15pm, and THE LEGEND OF SIX FINGERS goes on at 9pm; everything will wrap up by 10:30pm.
Here’s the trailer for Dry Bones:
“DRY BONES will have its film festival premiere at PollyGrind in Las Vegas on Friday, Oct. 11th at 6 pm. Both DRY BONES and THE LEGEND OF SIX FINGERS will have theatrical runs at the Screening Room Cinema Cafe in the Northtown Plaza. THE LEGEND OF SIX FINGERS will play Friday, October 11th and Sunday, Oct. 12th at 9:30pm. DRY BONES will play at various times over a week, Friday, Oct. 18th – Friday, Oct. 24th.
“I also want to make Buffalo Rising readers aware of Buffalo Dreams Fantastic Film Festival, which I program with Chris Scioli and which runs at the Amherst for a full week, Nov. 8th – 14th. For the first three years we were Buffalo Screams Horror Film Festival, but we’ve expanded our programming to include science fiction, fantasy, action, animation, cult and fan films as well as horror.”
