YUM's V-Day Guide: Nektar

Regular readers know that not only was Nektar recently featured in YUM for their fantastic Sunday brunch, but that their Sous Chef, William Ponholzer, won the most recent installment of BR's Chefs Challenge. If that isn't enticing enough, a quick scan of the menu below certainly will be.

Available on Valentine's Day only, this special menu encapsulates much of what makes Nektar so special. The clean, modern lines of the interior complement the precise and contemporary dishes on the menu. Approachable enough for the novice gourmet yet thoughtful enough for those that are in the know, it looks to us like Nektar should top your list of Valentine's day destinations.

Fantasy Foodball Comes to Life- Be There!

The votes are in for our game of Fantasy Foodball, and the winner is…banh mi! Banh mi is a delicious Vietnamese sandwich traditionally made on a baguette and comprised of meat or tofu, cilantro and slightly sweet, thinly sliced pickled carrots, daikon and onions.

In honor of Fantasy Foodball, Nektar restaurant has agreed to host a special Buffalo Rising night, offering a small plate special of banh mi to eager eaters. The delectable sandwiches will be available in combinations that include shrimp, deep fried tofu, chicken and pork.

Brunching at Nektar: A Sunday Devotion

For some, trying a new restaurant is a bit daunting, especially if you don’t go out for nice, sit-down meals very often. It’s easy to be torn. Why would you want to risk wasting a rare evening out and the contents of your wallet on a poor meal or shabby service? But then again, you’ve had the same meal at the same restaurant the last three times you were out, and everyone’s been talking about this great new restaurant, so why not try something different? Though I don’t personally identify with this conundrum, I recognize that it is an issue many are faced with.

Though my solution is not a cure-all for this situation, it may provide you with an alternative. If you’re really interested in trying a new or different restaurant, find out if they serve brunch. Congratulations, Nektar! You're the winner of BR's Chef's Challenge: White Cow Yogurt!

Nektar's Sous Chef, William Ponholzer, prepared a fantastic dish, illustrating both his skills and versatility. This entry featured near perfect execution and strong flavor pairings, showcasing a classic utilization of the mystery ingredient with unique innovations. This combination of skill and creativity gave Ponholzer a slight edge over our second place winner, Prime 490.

Much like Prime 490, Nektar's offering was a soup, “That softly fuses French techniques with Indian spices,” according to Ponholzer. A sublimely rich and spicy puree of red lentils was garnished with a cool Indian yogurt raita.
