Spring is in the air! It’s time for Sunday Suppers, brought to you in coordination with Slow Food Buffalo, in order to provide you with easy and delicious ways to feed yourself, your family or your friends by offering recipes from local chefs, utilizing local ingredients.

This month, Sunday Suppers will reflect the soon-to-arrive plethora of vegetable garden delights with a nutritious and delicious recipe from Trudy Stern of tru-teas on Elmwood. There, the Grain Bowl graces the daily menu, a dish that combines quality ingredients in a simple way that nourishes both the body and the soul.

Trudy’s Grain Bowl is chock full of ingredients that can be easily found at the Lexington Co-op, located directly across the street from her adorable little shop. If you haven’t visited tru-teas before (located in The Neighborhood Collective), you probably don’t realize that they offer a broad assortment of teas (by the cup or the ounce) and a good selection of the sweets that complement this …

We have two final Valentine's options for you. Both are unique and worthy of your attention if you're looking for something different.

The very small and lovely Virginia Place restaurant, Scarlet, is offering Valentine's specials and a prix fixe option along with a couple of special martinis. tru-teas may not be the first place you think of when Valentine's Day is mentioned, but scheduling a lovely afternoon tea would be an interesting and innovative way to mark the occasion, especially for singletons looking to enjoy the holiday with close friends. If you'd like, you can even bring along a nice bottle of wine or champagne. (tru-teas offers high tea year round with reservations).

A Springy Appetizer From tru-teas

The April issue of BRM features an article about a dinner BR recently organized. A number of local chefs and restaurateurs were invited to partake in one another’s company, conversation and cooking.

She also shared a lovely drink with us- a Hibiscus Mimosa with ca…

Warm Up With Friends and a Good Pot of Tea

Tru-teas offers a veritable encyclopedia of teas and tea accoutrements. It is also a very nice place to meet with friends for lunch or a nosh. As a part of The Neighborhood Collective, a visit also provides guests with the opportunity to peruse a variety of local wares displayed in the spaces operated by Annie Adams, Michael Morgulis, and New Buffalo Graphics. The collective also houses a number of other businesses including a spa, art studio and two galleries.

If you call ahead, Tru-teas offers a very nice English High Tea complete with pastries and savory small bites. But, most of the daily menu is Asian inspired.

On my recent visit a close friend and I enjoyed a quad of appetizers. Steamed vegetable dumplings, a crisp spring roll, traditional Nori rolls and Inari (tofu pockets stuffed with sweet sushi rice) graced the plate. As you can see, it was a very appealing pr…
