With its iconic angel standing on the roof and clutching two flaming torches, Gabriel's Gate exudes a brooding, mysterious vibe from the onset. But enter through its wrought iron gates and you'll find this distinctly Allentown bar is every bit warm and friendly.
Gabe’s Gate has become a fixture on Allen St. for its great bar setting and reasonably priced food - the perfect marriage of liquor and chicken wings. The dark wood interior has detailed carved booths and several working fireplaces to keep warm beside in the winter. Above the bar itself, you can look up to its peaked ceiling, dimly lit by a chandelier and stained glass windows. The building was built as a row house in 1864 and still blends into the traditional neighborhood architecture.
The bar is centered in the midst of a long dining room area where two large TVs make it a great place to watch a Sabres' game. You can easily order a drink and the bartenders will serve you well. Though the fireplaces and the low lighti…
One step off Edward St. and you'll find yourself in drinking in the company of America's most prominent fore-fathers, all while eating nachos and watching playoff football. It's Founding Fathers, tucked away in a slim brick building off Delaware Ave and housing a bar that's one part gentlemen's drinking hole and one part traditional pub.
Everywhere in Founding Fathers you can find homage to American history whether its portraits of presidents, newspaper clippings of important events or flags celebrating old election slogans. The building itself dates back to 1874, when it was a livery, and upon closer inspection you can find old hitching posts still nailed to the brick wall.

We've been playfully referred to as "a drinking city with a football problem". But in all seriousness, Buffalo is a city with a healthy, thriving bar culture that has become just as deep rooted in our tradition as our architecture, food and winter snowfalls have. Taking a look back at history, I was happily surprised to see that Buffalo's drinking status is not just local lore but has been well documented over the years by historians, visitors and hometown citizens alike.
Ever since the Erie Canal construction brought the first influx of hard working (and hard drinking) immigrants to the area, the bar scene has been an integral part of Buffalo. In 1850 there were 500 saloons and gaming establishments in the city or one for every 84 citizens. By 1893, when the city had grown in size and sophistication, there was a pub or saloon for every 100 people, literally translating to a…

As promised, here is your installment of beer reviews for July. Maybe you've missed it, but it's been pretty hot. On days like we've been having lately, nothing satisfies like a good beer- especially if your work makes you sweat. ok, well-and-good, (we all knew that,) but what are you having? Please be so kind as to let me throw a few options at you...
