Woodside Avenue Designated Tim Russert Way

Mayor Brown has already done a lot to honor Tim Russert, going so far as to give Father’s Day up to his memory. Today, the Mayor continued to honor Russert. Now, the Meet The Press host will have more than just a section of Route 20A named after him.
Though Russert loved the Buffalo Bills and dedicating the section of Route 20A that runs by the stadium was an excellent way to pay tribute to his zeal for the team, he was born and raised in South Buffalo. Now, at each end of the block of Woodside Avenue where the Russert family once lived, trailblazing signs that read: “This Route is Designated Tim Russert Way” stand. Though the route has not been officially renamed, the commemorative street signs offer a way to honor Russert’s memory in a place that always resonated with the hardworking host.
The plan to create and post the signs started on June 19th, when the Buffalo Common Council approved the measure designed by the Mayor. The signs are at the intersections of Woodside Avenue and McKinley Parkway and Woodside Avenue and South Park Avenue. Russert’s sister, Kathy Russert Hughes and her children, Jesse and Ashley, were at today’s unveiling ceremony. Mayor Brown also presented Russert’s sister with the U.S. flag that was flown at half-staff outside of City Hall in memory of Tim Russert.
The Mayor concluded today’s ceremony with this statement: “We honor Tim Russert today for everything he ever did for the city he loved, the institutions he revered and perhaps as importantly for the Buffalo sports teams he supported so passionately.”

Now that the Elmwood Village has landed the distinction of being one of the Top 10 Great Places in America, I can't wait for the day when the city switches up the street's lamp standards. If you look at historic Allentown, you will see that the street lighting is attractive and effective. It places the importance of the neighborhood experience on the sidewalk, rather than on the cars. As we see the highway cobras being replaced (finally) in our neighborhoods, our commercial distri …
Tomorrow evening, Ron Rienas, General Manager of the Public Bridge Authority, will meet with former State Senator Al Coppola in order to discuss the Peace Bridge and plaza expansion once again, and word is that Hillary Clinton is sending representatives.
In addition to the aesthetics, health concerns and historical impact to the immediate area, final funding has not been previously disclosed and is obviously an important element in the ongoing controversy over the entire proposed …
You know that you've run across a creative garden cooperative when you're shopping for gardening supplies and you come home with a work of art. That's why we're so lucky to have Urban Roots on the city's West Side. During the course of the year, the cooperative works hard towards teaming up with artists who live in the community. It is during the Holiday Season that there is a big push to shine a light on the creative individuals. And don't think that art just comes in the form of …
The Bills have a home but away from home game this weekend against the hated Dolphins. Suneel's Light, a local medical research foundation, is throwing the largest tailgate party in Western New York as the Buffalo Bills try to revenge their early season loss to their divisional rivals, the Miami Dolphins this Sunday in Toronto.
Known as Tailgate for a Cure, the annual fundraiser organized by the Suneel's Light Foundation welcomes all to attend a full blown, festive tailgate part …

A tribute to a great man who found tremendous success when he left Buffalo. He is an inspiration to all of us who have fought the good fight to see Buffalo's return to greatness but ultimately have to do what is in our own best interest. This is a lesson for those who have left the area to remain loyal to the home team and state your love for Buffalo as often as the public will tolerate.
I miss Tim Russert and I hope that we won't look at this in 30 years and say "Who?".

Even though I'm sure that people are going o say that I'm a jerk, and this is not meant to disrespect Mr. Russert, who I respect, but I thin the way this was done is F'ing dumb and confuses people. Either change the ACTUAL name of the street or do nothing at all. There are streets all over the east side like this and I've see a few on the West side too. They 'Designate' the way to someone, but leave the name of the street intact. Perfect example is "Harriet Tubman Way" Oh never heard of that, well that is because Michigan Avenue has signs on it saying "This route is dedicated Harriet Tubman Way". Take a look at Google Maps Here Michigan Avenue now has two names. I don't care if you want to dedicate a street to someone, but do it the old fashioned way and change the Actual street name! This is why we have streets with names like Lincoln, Chapin and Bidwell. These were real people what we wanted to name streets after. Imagine how confusing it would be if every street in Buffalo had two names. Imaging if Lincoln Parkway was just "Dedicated as Lincoln Parkway" but its real name was George Washington Parkway. Sorry but this is just dumb.
