Winner Of The Village Beer Merchant Logo

Of course I have my own personal favorite or two... but more than anything else I wanted to say how cool it was to see the submissions as they came in. It just goes to show how many cool and creative people we have who were excited about this latest venture on Elmwood Avenue. I'm sure that it was quite a task for the business to choose a winner, and I hope that all of you who submitted understand just how much your logos meant to see. Personally, I would buy a shirt with all of the logos on it. Make sure that you click continue to see some of the logos that were submitted. And thanks again for all those people that sent in an entry.

Maybe you read about this one last December, or maybe you took the time and looked over this one in April, and perhaps you considered attending this event back in June. Whatever your reasoning for putting it off, there’s no time like the present for Forgotten Buffalo, unless of course it’s the past.
Forgotten Buffalo Tours take participants on a journey into the history of the area, always striving to produce a unique and entertaining outing. Their success has allowed them to …
Last evening was the first time that I have ever attended the event, Party for the Parks held at the Marcy Casino. The parks gala started up just as the Burchfield-Penney showing was winding down, and has happened more than a few times this summer, the non-stop rain kept everyone guessing. By guessing, I mean that every time the band members would even look at their instruments the rain would start to fall. It was a good thing that the upper terrace was covered and the Marcy Casin …
According to Miguel Santos, one of the founders of the Puerto Rican Day Parade of WNY, starting the parade six years ago was a way of “recognizing that Buffalo’s Latino population continues to grow and we decided that it would be a great way to recognize this segment of the population.” Inspired by the National Puerto Rican Day Parade in NYC, Santos, who is a local activist in the Latino community, got a call from Jose Rodriguez, and the rest is history.
Santos says, “We …
For the first time in over a hundred years, Buffalo has unveiled a brand new ($33,000,000, 84,000 sq.’) museum. Yesterday, hundreds of people met at the Burchfield-Penney Art Center to witness, not one, but three, ribbon cuttings. Fans and supporters were greeted by trumpeting didgeridoos as they walked into the vaulting entranceway – a walk that led them past the museum café, the gift shop, the learning center, a conference center, studios, gallery spaces, and more gallery s …

I like the winner. I also like the bottom right beer mug/house and the six-pack village. There are so many fun ones!

Wow, I'm impressed. I think more new owners should weigh the possibility of opening up logo design to the public- the wealth of ideas here is spectacular. I can't wait to hear about the person that won- and, a tshirt sporting all of the logos would be really cool. Maybe the winning logo could be on the front and a collage of all of the others on the back?

Wow, how cool were the results to this?! I like the winner a lot, but there are about a dozen others in there that may have been just as good.
I can't wait till this place is open! They are going to do some dynamite business.

Some great entries! Just one tip - when it comes to logo design - they should always be kept to one or two colors. The more colors you add in, the higher the cost to reproduce that image - especially when it comes to screen printing. I look forward to the next contest!

what a great bunch of independant entries! what was the prize? they contest holders should pay all of them something and use them on their merchandise...t shirts, mugs, stuffed drunken monkies etc!!!! i like the six pack one also ..but the winner has a classy look to it.

Is the winner handwritten? It's nice, but it needs some more reworking of the letters and their proportions. The six pack beer village one was my favorite as well (4th from the bottom, right hand side). There is some design talent in Buffalo for sure.

hmm... i don't think it was a good idea to announce this on a saturday afternoon.
can't say that i agree with the winner either. this doesn't remind me of a classy, gourmet beer and food market. oh well, what do i know?

Wow. Really, everyone? Really? There is alot of talent in buffalo no question, but lets not be patronizing here, most of these are just plain horrible. period. 300 bucks in merch? Tells me the owners dont believe in the talent in Buffalo. Good logo design takes time, talent and an understanding of a myriad of things like target audiences, demographics, trends, etc. To understand and unearth these facts takes research. Research takes time. For fun, lets say 5 hours of research. An independent designer should be charging $60-85 an hour (if they are worth their salt). Boom, were already at 300-425 without putting pencil to paper. Double that for sketches, triple/quadruple that for final art and, honestly, youre still making out pretty well at 1200-1700 for a quality business identity that will last a minimum of 5 years (thats if its too trendy and needs a redesign). Thats $240-340/year for a quality ID that you might be able to recoup in some manner with t-shirts/posters. Not a bad ROI when you break it down. But thats just me.
I do agree the artwork '6-pack' rocks, the bottle cap idea is interesting (old bisons logo) and the bw front of the barrel is working. All the others should be burned like its 1813.

thanks for your breakdown lebowski, though i don't think it was necessary. do you really think a mom and pop start-up shop would spend $3,000+ just to develop a logo? they obviously don't care about a branding strategy. aside from that, this competition was open to all BR readers, soo that would explain the wide "variety" of entries. a few of these logos have potential, but thats the price you pay when you host an open a competition to those that don't necessarily design logos for a living and will do work for free gourmet beer.
