Willowbrook Farms Grocery

A trip to Willowbrook Farms Grocery, located at 92 Niagara Frontier Food Terminal (just across the street from the Clinton/Bailey Farmer’s Market), is ideal for those looking to stock up for such an event. The complex is massive, and there is a constant flow of trucks loading and unloading groceries packaged in food service-size quantities. The Food Terminal serves as a restaurant and food service supplier, but is also open to the public, allowing anyone to get wholesale prices on a wide variety of meat, canned vegetables, sauces, and much more.
The wholesale prices are excellent, and the quantities large enough to stuff all your guests. As of May 24, five-pound bags of hot dogs sold for $2.59/lb, and 10-pound cases of beef patties for $1.95/lb. Another popular grill item, shrimp, starts at $4.25/lb for two-pound bags. Other necessities, such as Frank’s Red Hot Sauce, Chiavetta’s marinade, baked beans, coleslaw, and potato salad, can all be purchased at low prices.
I was pleasantly surprised to find that, in addition to the grocery section, Willowbrook Farms has a separate beverage supply company- billed as Buffalo’s “newest and largest”- with an outstanding beer selection. The choices range from the cheap, popular Pabst Blue Ribbon (35 cents per 12-ounce can!) to the outstanding Rogue Dead Guy Ale ($9.70/six pack).
A nice complement to a summer evening meal in the yard would be Harpoon’s UFO Hefeweizen ($6.50/six pack), an unfiltered wheat beer with a light, crisp, citrusy taste. Try it with a slice of lemon to accentuate the citrus flavor. Abita’s Purple Haze ($7.80/six pack) is another solid choice- an American-style wheat beer, brewed with raspberries for a sweet and tart taste.
For the kids, 2 liter bottles of pop start as low as 50 cents. Chips and other snacks are also available.
The grocery section is open Monday-Friday from 6 AM-4 PM and Saturday from 6 AM- 12 PM. The beverage company hours are Monday-Friday from 8 AM-5 PM, and Saturday from 8 AM-3 PM.

It was a beautiful day for Sunday brunch, so the only choice was a restaurant that still had an open patio, where the food was going to be great.
Betty's it was. Not only was I able to have my Jack Russell terrier tableside next to the short, flower box laden fence, but I got to sit in the sun. The angle was steep for noon, a telling sign of shorter days, and if you don't believe me, look at the shadow the home fries cast.
Betty's is one of those places where you'll run into pe …
There have been many reincarnations at 752 Elmwood Avenue over the past couple of years. Wasabi is the newest restaurant nestled next door to Fowlers Chocolates and right across the street from Spot Coffee. When you enter you are greeted with exposed brick, sleek furniture and a gleaming sushi bar where colorful sashimi sits like little gems in a glass case. It is a small restaurant that can seat 12 at the tables and about 10 at the bar. Sitting at the sushi bar is a treat and ent …
The day Edritos opened on Elmwood Avenue several years ago, I was a happy man. I powered down more than my fair share of burritos back in those days. When it moved downtown into the Key Center, I no longer frequented the establishment. I just wasn’t downtown often enough to stop in. But Edritos has moved again, this time to Hertel Avenue between Parkside and Wallace.
My wife and I dropped by for takeout earlier today. I am pleased to report that my burrito was as delicious as …
Marcos Vargas has had a slew of restaurant locations around the West Side of Buffalo in his 24 years of doing business here, but the latest move to Niagara Street has got to be the best yet.
Vargas hails from Puerto Rico. Before Buffalo, he had restaurants in New Jersey and on 57th Street in Brooklyn. This is a family business, and customer loyalty is built in, which is one of the reasons Vargas manages to keep his prices so low. You can get your salty/sweet and crunchy craving …
