Bidding On Buffalo

Have you ever been to a fundraiser when the auction prizes were totally forgettable? We have just been approached by a non-profit that asked us... if we would ask you... "What sort of cool Buffalo ‘thing’ would you bid on?" If there are some thoughtful answers, then the organizers will shoot for the sky to make the gifts a reality. In the past we have seen Ryan Miller helmets auctioned off... but that's about all that readily comes to mind as far as the unusual goes. I remember at one point there were some people talking about an event where a house would be raffled off, along with donations from builders and maybe even Home Depot. That sounded like a pretty cool idea.
With all of the seats from The Aud going up for bid, I would think that would be a popular item. What about free TV broadcast time with a producer and equipment so that you could have a one-shot chance at making your own show? Maybe the Albright-Knox might donate a gallery showing in MUSE restaurant for an artist of your choice... would you bid on that? Is there something that you always wanted to do... sing with the GooGoo Dolls on stage? Name a street? Host a festival? Design a billboard? The sky's the limit. What would it take to get you to bid on an item pertaining to Buffalo?
Don’t be surprised if some of those ideas become a reality…

Now that the Elmwood Village has landed the distinction of being one of the Top 10 Great Places in America, I can't wait for the day when the city switches up the street's lamp standards. If you look at historic Allentown, you will see that the street lighting is attractive and effective. It places the importance of the neighborhood experience on the sidewalk, rather than on the cars. As we see the highway cobras being replaced (finally) in our neighborhoods, our commercial distri …
Tomorrow evening, Ron Rienas, General Manager of the Public Bridge Authority, will meet with former State Senator Al Coppola in order to discuss the Peace Bridge and plaza expansion once again, and word is that Hillary Clinton is sending representatives.
In addition to the aesthetics, health concerns and historical impact to the immediate area, final funding has not been previously disclosed and is obviously an important element in the ongoing controversy over the entire proposed …
You know that you've run across a creative garden cooperative when you're shopping for gardening supplies and you come home with a work of art. That's why we're so lucky to have Urban Roots on the city's West Side. During the course of the year, the cooperative works hard towards teaming up with artists who live in the community. It is during the Holiday Season that there is a big push to shine a light on the creative individuals. And don't think that art just comes in the form of …
The Bills have a home but away from home game this weekend against the hated Dolphins. Suneel's Light, a local medical research foundation, is throwing the largest tailgate party in Western New York as the Buffalo Bills try to revenge their early season loss to their divisional rivals, the Miami Dolphins this Sunday in Toronto.
Known as Tailgate for a Cure, the annual fundraiser organized by the Suneel's Light Foundation welcomes all to attend a full blown, festive tailgate part …

It would be nice to bid on something that isn't just another 'thing' you take home. Like providing the seed money to get a project (name it...big and small) started, that would benefit the entire city. Get the naming rights or something. Ask for matching bids for a collaborative project.

We should start a Public Grudge Match every Friday night in Buffalo @ Kessler Center. Bidding on the choice of contestans is a great gift. This Friday, I will be bitch-slapping icecream's spaz ass. Next week, Mark Croce and Jimmy Alfieri go heads up for parking rights behind the Croc. Stick around for the week after when blow dealers go at it for rights to the Old Pink...
