WBFO and BRO: The City Budget and the Peace Bridge (Again)

Or Click Here to download the audio.

We talked about the city budget including the advent of the Rainy Day Budget within the $435M allotment. Brown is calling for tighter purse strings on spending within city hall the same way city residents are forced to be frugal in their own lives. This touched off some interesting comments online, but most people are happy for lower property taxes and a stay on garbage user fees. Police and fire hiring are up, crime is down and plans for a greener Buffalo are on the way.

We lamented the Peace Bridge's pile up of issues. We like the Menn design, we don't like the plaza, we care about the community and as for the birds and fish, we don't feel those facts have been corroborated. Furthermore, if a community of great people in very nice homes aren't enough of a reason to modify the plaza, why would fish and birds be able to sway a bridge design?
Here and there and urban planning. We talked some more about the placement of things, like UB itself, Route 33, the I-190. Is it unreasonable to take the placement of the Peace Bridge truck plaza into account? We, who tore down the Larkin Company Administration Building. Do we need these homes?
Next, we talked about the new issue of Buffalo Rising. I won't tell you all about it because it's out on the streets, and I like to encourage reading. Look for our new dedicated pages of features you'll see every month. While you're at it, let us know what other sorts of things you'd like to see pages devoted to. Think "quick reads of juicy bits".
Finally, don't forget that BRO/BRM is sponsoring a Cinco De Mayo party at Cozumel Grill and Tequila Bar tonight. Come on over and you're sure to have fun.

Here's a rerun of a post Steel did two and a half years ago. A building with an already rich history back then, it has even more of a story to tell now. Fortunately, due to the hard work and foresight of a group of neighbors, preservationists, a great lawyer and a developer with the wherewithal and vision to turn an imminent demolition around, one of Steel's favorite buildings has a future too.
This marvelous edifice is on Jersey Street just west of Richmond. It is on a great …
E Square Capital, LLC is busy converting a former factory at 937 Broadway near Fillmore Avenue into a mix of 43 studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments plus first-floor commercial space. Eran and Randy Epstein purchased the four-story building in 2002 from Mauntner Co., a jewelry display case manufacturer that vacated the structure in 2000.
“This residential development fills a huge need and is a great opportunity to bring quality, affordable housing to the Broadway-F …

If they build the Menn bridge, they better rename themselves the Biphallic Bridge Authority. It's a souless, egotistical monument to greed and avarice.
