Donate Green and Pass It On!

If there were ever a time to cast you vote for a cause, the time is now. As Buffalo still recovers from the October Storm, we are still far, far away from being the city of trees as we once were. Thanks to groups like Re-Tree WNY (5-Year Goal of 30,000 Trees!), the city has taken great grassroots strides to re-energize our tree stock. With weekly plantings this past fall and ongoing collection efforts, Re-Green could really use some extra cash. Now the organization has announced a drive through Parade Magazine in which people pony up some cash for their favorite causes. (Click here to donate)
It's simple. Do you have an extra five bucks? Ten? If so, Re-Tree asks that you help the cause. Not all of us can get down to Squaw Island to dig in the dirt. Many people would rather give a small sum of money to help in the effort. Others are too far away to plant a tree. That's why this is such a great idea... a Buffalo tree drive. On top of it, the city that gets the most individual donations towards their charity gets an extra $50,000 to go towards it from the Parade and the Case Foundations). We only have until January 31st to participate. Regardless, your money will go towards trees... and hopefully a lot more. We'll keep you posted on the results. Make sure that you send this on to your friends and family so that they can participate.

Now that the Elmwood Village has landed the distinction of being one of the Top 10 Great Places in America, I can't wait for the day when the city switches up the street's lamp standards. If you look at historic Allentown, you will see that the street lighting is attractive and effective. It places the importance of the neighborhood experience on the sidewalk, rather than on the cars. As we see the highway cobras being replaced (finally) in our neighborhoods, our commercial distri …
Tomorrow evening, Ron Rienas, General Manager of the Public Bridge Authority, will meet with former State Senator Al Coppola in order to discuss the Peace Bridge and plaza expansion once again, and word is that Hillary Clinton is sending representatives.
In addition to the aesthetics, health concerns and historical impact to the immediate area, final funding has not been previously disclosed and is obviously an important element in the ongoing controversy over the entire proposed …
You know that you've run across a creative garden cooperative when you're shopping for gardening supplies and you come home with a work of art. That's why we're so lucky to have Urban Roots on the city's West Side. During the course of the year, the cooperative works hard towards teaming up with artists who live in the community. It is during the Holiday Season that there is a big push to shine a light on the creative individuals. And don't think that art just comes in the form of …
The Bills have a home but away from home game this weekend against the hated Dolphins. Suneel's Light, a local medical research foundation, is throwing the largest tailgate party in Western New York as the Buffalo Bills try to revenge their early season loss to their divisional rivals, the Miami Dolphins this Sunday in Toronto.
Known as Tailgate for a Cure, the annual fundraiser organized by the Suneel's Light Foundation welcomes all to attend a full blown, festive tailgate part …

I think that is such an exceptionally beautiful picture. There is everything in it. I have looked at it so many times today and thought "the Charleston of the North (not to diminish Buffalo: Charleston could equally be the Buffalo of the South). The Case Foundation is a remarkable institution. God Bless it and Buffalo.

Forget trees, Buffalo should aspire to be" The City of Asphalt". This great attribute is already so much more within our reach. Only Houston stands in our way and those dumb Texans are flirting with microparks.

Great idea, and excellent matching opportunity. I donated. (Though the 4.5% processing fee is wasted capital.)
Oh...and I nominate gaustad and RisingDamp666 as our city's biggest losers for their continued negative pleasure and low-level visisioning that never rises above the worst fragment of any reality.

...Oh, and UrbanBody? That "4.5% processing fee" bought me those Cuban cigars. Your "wasted capital" tastes so very sweet indeed...

I enjoy laughing at his comments to himself. Such creativity! It is almost an artform.

I enjoy waking up to marketrate's frustrated attempts at blanketing this site with the same poorly crafted commentary. Keep trying, Minor Leaguer.
