Fisher-Price Toys Around In Buffalo

Fisher-Price Toys Around In Buffalo

Story Options

One of the region's most beloved companies, Fisher-Price, is rolling out a brand new line of action heroes and they want Buffalonians to join in on the excitement. The preschool-appropriate action heroes are representative of planets in our solar system. The special local viewing of the line is a different type of marketing approach, which will be accompanied by a 27-minute movie that will be shown throughout the launch. The Fisher-Price team has dreamed up some pretty cool names to go along with the toys, two of which will be appearing in ‘real life’ at The Buffalo Zoo on August 11th from 11am to 4pm.

As I thought about the product launch it struck me that this might really be the first time that Fisher-Price has planned to push a launch by tying it into the city. Juliette Reashor, Senior Manager Public Relations at FP agreed. “This is something new that we're doing. The event takes place over a full weekend. The Planet Heroes will be ‘landing’ at the airport, before they travel around the area making appearances. ‘Ace’ represents planet earth and ‘Digger’ represents planet mars (both in costume). Not in the recent past have we done something like this in Buffalo. This is a special treat for the city. There is an important learning component to the toys, as well as just being fun. We showed off the Heroes to media at the Toy Fair in NYC, but now we're excited to show it locally. Kids will be able to play with the action figures, and the airport exposure should generate some excitement.”

Look for the action figures as they make appearances in WNY, then look for them as they hit the national market. And remember that the creativity was generated by a WNY company that has been toying around here for 75 years.

Oh no! Lead, run for the hills!

It always amazed me that people of prior generations were exposed to everything but seem to live til 90. Who heard of lead poison, mercury poison, Lime disease, etc in the 40s, 50s and 60s... Todays kids are too pampered!

    Kidding of course...

Fisher-Price used to have higher standards. Once upon a time, they advertised only to _parents._ Now they've joined the onslaught of marketers who target kids. And in a place that some parents appreciate as a refuge from relentlless branding and commercialism. I don't see why BuffaloRising is cheering for this.

In the privatopia that some would have for us, unbranded space, like a public zoo without sponsors and product placements, would be illegal.

Oh, and Auburner, "prior generations" didn't all live to 90, fer chrissakes. Both my grandfathers died before age 50, one of a heart attack and the other of diabetes. Haven't you ever gone to an old cemetery and seen all the graves for babies and children? In 1900, about 25% of American children did not live to adulthood.

Probably because Fisher Price is one of the jewels of this region and is dedicated to the entertainment and education of children. This is a capitalist society, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with a toy company marketing its toys to children - the ultimate consumers of those toys. As for the zoo being a respite from commercialism, I guess you haven't been there lately because there's branding all over the place at the zoo. Not that there's anything wrong with that, because the zoo needs every penny it can get.

In the privatopia that some would have for us, unbranded space, like a public zoo without sponsors and product placements, would be illegal.

*Sniff* I can't imagine that a small "KayTee" logo obliterates your ability to enjoy the birds, but I guess some people have issues.

Auburner said that he was kidding. WTF is your problem with people?

Great event for the kids and another great marketing program by Fisher Price / Mattel. I am glad that they did the right thing with their toy recall, a lesser company would have covered-up the issue until it was detected by the consumer or independent testers. Please don't confuse the knee-jerk reaction to outsourcing to China with the quality and reputation of this company, they have been producing quality toys, games, and other items for generations, don't let one bad batch and a whole lot of hype ruin their reputation. They addressed the current issue and the issues going forward, let's hope that this translates into more jobs for WNY. BTW, is the call center in East Aurora hiring as a result of this recall?

Yes, that great company did hire extra staff for it's call center - hey held an open house each of the last two weekends.

BP - thanks for the kind words in defense of one of the areas true jewels.

I can't wait to see how Buffalo Pundit's relentless condescension will serve him when he goes begging for votes in Clarence. Maybe I'm crazy, but voters just don't warm up to petty sarcasm. It's so 8th grade.

I can't wait to see 42nate reveal his/her identity rather than taking puerile potshots that are completely and utterly off-topic and irrelevant. Voters warm up to people who have passion about things that matter. I have passion, and when I read something that is utterly ridiculous, that passion comes out. Oh, and f*ck off.

    That sarcastic enough for you?

Puerile? That's how I'd describe flinging the F word in an exchange that hardly deserves it. If you're this petty online, I can't imagine you'll show much decency or maturity in office.

I'll let you know the moment I need etiquette/netiquette lessons from anonymous trolls. What's this all got to do with Fisher Price, anyway. The people of the 4th District can't stand trolls.
