Update: The 'Holy Cupola!' House

The Central Park renovation project profiled on these pages a little under a year ago is finished and for sale. Located at 255 Huntington Avenue at the corner of Vorhees the 3,386 sq.ft. single-family residence received an extreme home make-over by BRO commenter ‘Sal’ Zambito.
Zambito and his partner Tim Sick, under the auspices of Rita LLC, purchased the home at a late-2005 foreclosure and spent the last two years bringing new life to the place. Besides a new color scheme, the most visible change to its street presence is the addition of a cupola. The four-bedroom, three and half bath home is listed at $449,900.
“There were fifteen, 30-yard dumpsters of debris in this place,” says Zambito.
Says Zambito, “There weren't any structural surprises. We hired an architect as well as a structural engineer and completed interior bracing for the weight of the cupola.”
“The neighborhood reaction has been great. An older lady who lives nearby says she wants to buy it for her daughter out-of-town so she'll move back to Buffalo,” says Zambito.
At last count, Sal has bought, renovated, and sold almost 60 city properties over the past 16 years. An investment of several million dollars according to Zambito.
One of the more interesting projects that he is working on is a condo conversion project in the West Village. The Whitney condominium project will feature six units, each with 1,093 sq.ft. of living space. Sales will begin when the offering plan is approved by the State in a few months. Pricing has not been set but is expected to be under $100/sq.ft. The property will be featured on this year’s downtown housing tour on June 28th.

Now that the Elmwood Village has landed the distinction of being one of the Top 10 Great Places in America, I can't wait for the day when the city switches up the street's lamp standards. If you look at historic Allentown, you will see that the street lighting is attractive and effective. It places the importance of the neighborhood experience on the sidewalk, rather than on the cars. As we see the highway cobras being replaced (finally) in our neighborhoods, our commercial distri …
Tomorrow evening, Ron Rienas, General Manager of the Public Bridge Authority, will meet with former State Senator Al Coppola in order to discuss the Peace Bridge and plaza expansion once again, and word is that Hillary Clinton is sending representatives.
In addition to the aesthetics, health concerns and historical impact to the immediate area, final funding has not been previously disclosed and is obviously an important element in the ongoing controversy over the entire proposed …
You know that you've run across a creative garden cooperative when you're shopping for gardening supplies and you come home with a work of art. That's why we're so lucky to have Urban Roots on the city's West Side. During the course of the year, the cooperative works hard towards teaming up with artists who live in the community. It is during the Holiday Season that there is a big push to shine a light on the creative individuals. And don't think that art just comes in the form of …
The Bills have a home but away from home game this weekend against the hated Dolphins. Suneel's Light, a local medical research foundation, is throwing the largest tailgate party in Western New York as the Buffalo Bills try to revenge their early season loss to their divisional rivals, the Miami Dolphins this Sunday in Toronto.
Known as Tailgate for a Cure, the annual fundraiser organized by the Suneel's Light Foundation welcomes all to attend a full blown, festive tailgate part …

Love that house exceppt for the cupola which seems very out of scale and out of place. It adds an interesting visual element inside but from the outside it is overwhelming. In any case the re-do looks top notch!

very nice but good god that is too much white in the kitchen. Since when did it become illegal to put wood in kitchens.
I actually like the cupola. i think it adds a little somethin somethin to the building setting it apart from others like it. can you go up in it? That would make it even better.

Sal, great work! My bf and I recently moved into this neighborhood, and we walk by this house all the time. In fact, we make a point to walk near it with our dog when we plan the route, simply because this house is so interesting to look at. Thanks for your hard work!

Nice job Sal and Tim!
I rented a unit that had been rehabbed in a victorian home on Ashland that Sal and Tim had restored beautifully. It's wonderful to see these projects come to life and old homes that fell into disrepair regaining their glory.

I have been actively watching this house, as I live in the neighborhood in which it sits. Sal and Tim have done an impeccable job resotring the house and really adding some life to a pretty boring street. I agree that the cupola is a little big for the house, but absolutely tremendous as an interior and exterior element. The roof deck above the garage, simply amazing!!! GREAT JOB GUYS!!!!!

This house is great!! I have lived in the neighborhood for 30 years. BUT, it is on Huntington, not Depew or Woodbridge just blocks away. I hope you get your money back but it won't be easy. Thank you though for improving the hood...

By the way, the cupola is the best part, it's the right size. I like it b/c you don't see it much in north buffalo. Ahh the widows walk....
