Under The Big Lights At LaSalle Park

This was the scene last night when we were leaving LaSalle Park. As we rounded the far end where the baseball diamonds are found we were almost blinded by the lights that shone upon a Little League football game. It looked as if the lights of Rich Stadium had suddenly descended upon LaSalle Park. We decided to pull up to the game, and before we knew it we were totally engrossed in the activity. Fans of the visiting Lancaster team were cheering on the opposite side of the field, while West Side fans camped out on the near side.
To our left we noticed a fairly large blue barn with a sign on it advertising different types of food for sale. We looked at each other and asked, "Did you ever notice a blue barn here before?" We shook our heads. It was then that we decided that some stadium food was in order... especially if the proceeds went to supporting Little League. As we approached, we began to read the menu and were surprised to see that it wasn't just hamburgers. Among other things were pastelillos, shish kabobs, pickles, pizza, nachos, burgers and hotdogs. There was also hot chocolate, coffee, candy and soda. We ordered a couple of cheeseburgers and waited for them to be prepared. While we were waiting, the young kid behind the counter said, "You'll like the burgers, we made them ourselves... they're really good." Wow... the kid (maybe 14-years old) was really happy to see how well the food business was doing. "Enjoy your food," he said as we walked away.
We walked back over to the field and watched the two teams battle it out. I'll tell you one thing... these kids really hit hard. It was a blast to catch this event down at LaSalle Park. We're going to make it a point to look for the overhead lights every time we're down there in hopes that we catch another game... and maybe a couple of pastelillos next time.

As we mentioned in our previous post, we’re in the process of changing the Buffalo Rising site. We’re almost there as we expect to launch the new site on Friday, December 19th.
In the meantime, posting will be light as we log new stories in the new publishing system which will only be viewable when we launch on Friday.
As always, we appreciate our users’ patience as we make this transition but we promise it will be well worth it. With faster load times, a comment view …
Caroline Kennedy was in town for a visit with our mayor yesterday. A possible choice to succeed US Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Kennedy's name has been mentioned along with that of Attorney General Andrew Cuomo (son of former New York Governor Mario Cuomo) and our own Byron Brown, among others.
Certainly, Kennedy has "been around politics" all of her life, which is to say she was born into a family of politicos and lived in the White House--neither of which would necessarily f …
Free light rail rides on downtown's above ground section could be derailed thanks to the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority's budget mess. That is the news coming out of a Buffalo Place meeting this morning. Facing a budget shortfall and reduced State operating assistance, the NFTA is scrambling for new revenue sources and is contemplating charging for rides along the lengthy downtown pedestrian mall.
Well it is Christmas time in the city and the NFTA helped put people and especially children into the mood in a very festive and fun way. One of my favorite memories of childhood was taking the train downtown with my grandfather. I would gaze out the windows and watch the tunnel speed by. It always felt like we were going a million miles an hour.
Then there was the ability to stand up and walk around during the ride without the need to be strapped down. It was always a fun time …

Good to see the suburbanites from Lancaster visiting the City for the little league games.

Blymi - because people from Lancaster never come to the city for any other reason?

That's right. People from Lancaster rarely make the trip because the wheels on their Amish buggies keep getting caught in the potholes!

Blymi you are a tool. It takes reading a couple of posts to see you hate people from the burbs. Maybe they don't come into the city simply to avoid uppity assholes like yourself. Just one way to look at it.

RonR - be nice, not everyone can live in the City - remember Buffalo is the City of Good Neighbors. Just becuase someone makes a positive comment doesn't make him a tool. Possibly Blymi lives in the city.
Back to the story - LaSalle Park is a wonderful park and it is great that is being used for fun events for the kids. It has a great view of the river.
