5th Annual Free Bacchus Summer Film Series

This year's 5th Annual free 2008 Bacchus Summer Film Series looks like it has something for everyone... and then some. There are some real standouts in the crowd, namely Manchurian Candidate, American Graffiti, Slap Shot, and Psycho...
Of course there are some others that people will clamor to see, but those four should prove to be perfect for outdoor viewing along with a crowd. The original Manchurian Candidate (with Sinatra) rocks... for the time period that it was released there are some incredibly controversial scenes. Of course American Graffiti is a staple for any nostalgic movie lover, and don't forget that every year the Hanson Brothers (from Slap Shot) grace us with their presence at the World's Largest Disco downtown. Psycho? "No! I tell you no! I won't have you bringing some young girl in for supper! By candlelight, I suppose, in the cheap, erotic fashion of young men with cheap, erotic minds!"
Bacchus is a great venue to celebrate summer on Chippewa. *Every Wednesday from June 4th to September 17th in the back courtyard (food and wine available). After dark, the movie will begin, approximately 8:30 PM. Both table and aisle seating is available, but reservations will only be taken for tables. Due to high demand, it is highly suggested to arrive early to secure a seat. Blankets are welcome. This event is shine only and due to mature viewing content, the Summer Film Series is not suggested for children.
Bacchus is located at 56 West Chippewa @ Franklin, phone: 716.854.WINE (9463). Visit them online at www.ultimaterestaurants.com for menus and additional info. And don't forget to grab dinner before the show - of course there will be plenty of free popcorn for dessert. Free Valet every Friday and Saturday evening.

Mrs. Murphy: Help you two?
Elwood: Do you have any white bread ma'am?
Mrs. Murphy: Yeah.
Elwood: I'll have some toasted white bread please.
Mrs. Murphy: You want butter or jam on that, honey?
Elwood: No ma'am, dry.
Jake: Do you have any fried chicken ma'am?
Mrs. Murphy: Best damned chicken in the state.
Jake: Bring me four fried chickens and a Coke.
Mrs. Murphy: You want chicken wings or chicken legs?
Jake: Four fried chickens and a Coke.
Elwood: And some dry white toast please.
Mrs. Murphy: Ya'all want anything to drink with that?
Elwood: No ma'am.
Jake: A Coke.
Mrs. Murphy: Be right back.

Now that the Elmwood Village has landed the distinction of being one of the Top 10 Great Places in America, I can't wait for the day when the city switches up the street's lamp standards. If you look at historic Allentown, you will see that the street lighting is attractive and effective. It places the importance of the neighborhood experience on the sidewalk, rather than on the cars. As we see the highway cobras being replaced (finally) in our neighborhoods, our commercial distri …
Tomorrow evening, Ron Rienas, General Manager of the Public Bridge Authority, will meet with former State Senator Al Coppola in order to discuss the Peace Bridge and plaza expansion once again, and word is that Hillary Clinton is sending representatives.
In addition to the aesthetics, health concerns and historical impact to the immediate area, final funding has not been previously disclosed and is obviously an important element in the ongoing controversy over the entire proposed …
You know that you've run across a creative garden cooperative when you're shopping for gardening supplies and you come home with a work of art. That's why we're so lucky to have Urban Roots on the city's West Side. During the course of the year, the cooperative works hard towards teaming up with artists who live in the community. It is during the Holiday Season that there is a big push to shine a light on the creative individuals. And don't think that art just comes in the form of …
The Bills have a home but away from home game this weekend against the hated Dolphins. Suneel's Light, a local medical research foundation, is throwing the largest tailgate party in Western New York as the Buffalo Bills try to revenge their early season loss to their divisional rivals, the Miami Dolphins this Sunday in Toronto.
Known as Tailgate for a Cure, the annual fundraiser organized by the Suneel's Light Foundation welcomes all to attend a full blown, festive tailgate part …

The inclusion of Slapshot almost makes up for the fact that Wedding Crashers is included. Seriously, wedding crashers? I'm sure each of us could name 25 better movies in thirty seconds.
Otherwise, I am content.
Free popcorn!
woohoo!

Wedding Crashers is horrible! What an anomaly it is compared to the rest of that list. Always good to see quality stuff like Boondock Saints (and most of the movies on the Bacchus list) get a mention.

This series really went downhill. The movies in the past years were so much better! Slap Shot and Wedding Crashers?! uggghh The best was when they had Rear Window. That was magnificent. At least there is one Hitchcock
