Think Pink
The Old Pink was written up in GQ Magazine (a while ago) for having an incredible fried bologna sandwich. The snippet was called e21 dishes worth traveling fori, and I would have to agree that this sandwich ranks very high on the bar food scale. The Pink is Allentownis claim to nightlife fame. The bar is open to 4+ am, and if you think about it, the evening doesnit even get going there until about 1am. Thatis one of the reasons the grill behind the bar is so popular. After drinking the night away, what could be better than grabbing some delicious grub served by the nightis griller de jour?
Last night, that guy just so happened to be bartender/griller extraordinaire, Jay McCarthy. I asked him what makes these late night eats so special. iItis the grillOe itis the fact that the grill has been seasoning for so many years that makes the food taste so greati. The food is always cooked to perfection. Mind you, this is not the healthiest stuff on the planet, but it does its job in both the taste department and the filling department as well. I asked a patron at the bar, Scott Logan, what he thought made the food taste so good. iItis the atmosphere. You know when youire eating at the Pink, itis been the end of a good, long night. Itis cool that you get the steak sandwich in a basket with a pickle. Then they place the diner-style napkin dispenser in front of you, along with a bottle of Lea & Perrins Steak Sauce and youire good to go.i
The place plays some of the best music in Buffalo, draws one of the most einterestingi crowds in the city, and it could quite possibly be the hardest bar to voluntarily leave once you have positioned yourself at the bar.
