Think Financial Student Loans

Within half an hour of opening the doors to The Webb building, over two hundred people streamed in through the front door. By the time the evening was over it was hard to say just how many visitors had been through the daycare and the fourth floor loft apartments. One thing was certain, and that was the positive that the conversion received from everyone who attended the affair (catered by Washington Market of course). This is a living situation that incorporates a lot of modern features into the old brick structure. The lighting, which was all new since I had last been there, hi-lighted all of the curves and corners, while bringing out the unusual color palate chosen for the daycare.

The wood floored loft units were finally 100% finished, and objects of note happened to be the glass bowl sinks, the built in fireplaces, the dark wood kitchen cabinetry, the arched brick hallways, the modern elevator system, and the high ceilings. It doesn't hurt having Fera's Restaurant across the street and Pearl Street Brew Pub next door either. I reached out to Joe Eicheldinger, Senior Relationship Manager for Key Bank's community development lending program (who happened to be at the opening) to ask about his outlook on the project (he's been involved with enough eround town). "I think that the project is another example of how thoughtful design, and consideration of the public good, can be achieved as we see here through the restoration of this 130 year old building. The Webb Building can now offer more loft living for downtown residents. Then, you have the daycare that will also cater to special needs kids. It will allow all the kids to be together in one daycare. It will be a quality daycare for all kids, and that's important. This will allow more people to live and work downtown... Key Bank is a very big player for this type of lending in a lot of other cities, and I'm working with the bank to look at lending for more of these types of projects in Buffalo. We've already done Cornerstone Manner, Victory Ridge Apartments and now we're looking into the possibility of helping with the 500 Block of Main Street. It's an exciting time to be in Buffalo."

This building was a total mess - a woman working on the project was telling me how it took MONTHS just to clear debris out of it. Amazing what vision and strong will can accomplish. Beautiful job, Rocco!

I went to the Webb opening last night and it was really impressive. I couldn't believe how many people were there. It was a fun mix of people watching, as the styles ranged from couples dressed in suits and ties, to younger couples looking like potential renters, to the construction guys that worked on the project in jeans and untucked button downs. I was a bit dissappointed that guests were not allowed up on the roof to take in the playground that was created for the future students of the Vincennes Academy...it ceratinly would have made for a memorable experience. The lofts themselves were really finished nicely. The windows are beautiful, as were the bathrooms and kitchens. Some nice moldings around the baseboards of the interior walls and the gas fireplaces were a nice touch as well. It'll be fun to see how these apartments compare to the project at 500 Main - Rocco and Carmina and Wood are pairing up for those as well...

As a developer Rocco has reshaped Buffalo in ways never possible if he would have been a candidate like some of his earlier friends. The time he spends accomplishing is better spent than getting elected. Congratulation Rocco on what you contribute to our city.

Agreed, great project. Now I would love to see a mid-rise put in between this and the Dunn Building. Does anyone know what the Dunn Building is used for and what its occupance rates are? Just curious because I absolutely love it

I was at the Webb Building's opening & was very impressed with Vincennes Academy (childcare center), but not so much with the lofts on the 4th floor. The lofts were small & all the electrical boxes were placed in the middle of the livingroom walls. Also, the cable outlets were ackwardly placed as well. With that said, I'm really glad to see such a cutting edge childcare center opening in Buffalo. Way to go Rocco!!!

Special thanks go out to all the obstructionists who recognized this building's value and potential 20 years ago and kept Carl Paladino from developing it into a parking lot. Termini might have inherited much less expensive demolition-by-neglect had Carl Paladino been dragged into Housing Court. But some people in Buffalo have Get Out Of Jail Free cards.
