The Real Ironmen Come To Buffalo
Artists from WNY, PA, Ohio, and Ontario will have limited admission to their demonstrations as they conduct their forging. Tickets will be available to be purchased on site. The above picture is of Kim Thomas, one of the artists giving a demonstration and below is Andy Hammer, an artist giving a demonstration who has received national attention for his bronze gate that will hang in front of the Lincoln catafalque in the Visitor Center at the Capitol Building in Washington, DC.
People partaking in the conference, happening concurrently with the other activities, will be able to practice their skills and exchange techniques in the “U Forge” area on Saturday and Sunday, May 24th and 25th. The cost is $45 for one day or $80 for both and though the public is welcome to watch, due to insurance regulations, they cannot partake.
That may be disappointing, but there will be a lot more going on than just forging. Admission to the gallery and auction is free and open to the public and can be viewed from 9am till 6pm on both days. The auction is on Saturday from 7-9pm with professional auctioneer Sam Harvey, himself a Roycrofter at Large artist/craftsman.
IronFest will also have a silent (Chinese style) auction called “Iron in the Hat.” It will include decorative pieces and metal working tools. Drawings will happen both days at 6pm and you do not need to be present to collect your prize. There will also be a blacksmith’s flea market, where used tools and materials are bought and sold.
In total, IronFest features a total of 24 hours worth of demonstrations over Memorial Day weekend. For conference attendees, the event begins that Friday, May 23rd with the general public welcome to attend the next two days.
