The Real Disco Deal

Story Options

discoegejfge.jpg They are in their 40s and 50s now. A little older, maybe wiser. They're Buffalo guys. Lawyers, producers, business professionals and fathers. At one time they ruled the dance floors of the hottest clubs from Buffalo to NYC. Studio 54, New York-New York, Underground in NYC, Friday's & Saturday's, Club 747, LaBoom, Uncle Sam's and of course Mulligans. They spun for the hottest celebrities and sports professionals. They worked for the most successful club owners -- Steve Rubell, Ian Schrager, Michael Militello, Maurice Brahams, Jimmy Cosentino and Ron "Pudgy" Paolini -- pioneers and inventors of the club scene . Their names -- John Ceglia, Charlie "Captain Disco" Anzalone, "The King of Funk" Keith Perla, Paul Foxe, Tony Spencer, Gary Deanne, John Zilliox and Donnie Raiser.

On Friday, February 23, these DJ vets are going to spin again, truly bringing back disco magic to Buffalo when they appear at "The World's Smallest Disco" to benefit the Variety Club and Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo.

The event will be at LEVEL Night Club (photo), 75 Chippewa beginning at 9pm. It's been named the smallest disco only because it benefits the little people of WNY.

The event was conceived by Donnie Raiser and Paul Cambria, past Variety Club Telethon Chariman and local attorney, because they had the idea to stage an event that would recreate that bygone era, getting people remembering what it was like to move and groove on the dance floor again while supporting a great cause. They contacted Ceglia who jumped on it because he had the "itch" to get back in the DJ booth. They went out and recruited legandary local disco DJs who all agreed to leave their lives and living rooms, bring their Boogie Shoes to Funky Town while Stayin Alive to Rainin Men and more.

The difference between this event and the area's other disco party is that the people playing the music will be the ones who actually played during the disco days. These guys are the real deal.

Event tickets are $10 and are available by calling Ticket Master at 716.852.5000 or by visiting www.ticketmaster.com. -Donna Summerstreet

SHUT UP!!! I SO wish I was going to be in Buffalo for this event!! I was teenager in Buffalo during the '70s and though none of the gay club DJs were mentioned, it sounds like it will be a BLAST!. By the way, the whole John Travolta thing was a media image. If you were there, you KNOW what went down. Sex,drugs and music you could dance to!!! 50 is the new 30. so relax...

Wish they'd do something like that this summer when I would be in Buffalo visiting. Used to haunt all the bars on Elmwood from The Elmwood Village all the way down to Goodbar. Those were the days. I see people dance now and they have no idea what they're doing. I miss partying in Buffalo theres no place like home. .

    Dancer,

You are so right, John Ceglia has played in the best clubs from Buffalo to New York City. He draws you to the dance floor and keeps you there with one astonishing mix after another. You are powerless to the mixes of the Master, and can not wait for the next mix to lift you in rapture. At times the mixes go on so long that it can take your breath away with delight. I am fortunate enough to own some of Johns music on tape and believe me it is a true treasure.

    John,

Welcome home and see you on the dance floor!
