The Parkside Community Association (PCA) is celebrating its 10th annual Tour of Homes this year. According to Kathleen Peterson, executive director of the PCA, “We’re hoping to have ten [homes]. There aren’t any from last year.”

Currently the PCA has secured nine homes for the tour, five of which are completely new, and none of which were on last years tour, but there is a few that have been on previous year’s tours. Though usually the Darwin Martin House is included on the tour, this year it is not. However, the Gardener’s Cottage as well as the Barton House will be.

The tour starts at the Church of the Good Shepard on the corner of Jewett Parkway and Summit Avenue. Information, tickets, and maps will be available there. Tickets the day of are $15, however, you can purchase tickets in advance. They are available at the PCA’s office at 2318 Main Street during regular business hours for $13 and $11 for members of the PCA.

The tour showcases homes in the Parkside area, which offers examples of the American Four Square, Victorian, Colonial Revival, Craftsmen, and the Arts & Crafts bungalow. The event is rain or shine and children under the age of twelve are not allowed to partake in the walk. Proceeds go to benefit the work of the PCA.

“We work on anything that’s impacting the neighborhood. We primarily do housing advocacy,” says Peterson. The PCA actively participates in such issues as the current Main Street construction and the Scajaquada Expressway downgrading. The PCA also does a lot of work with children, including a summer arts program in Delaware park that employees 20 teenagers and services 200 children.

The tour is Sunday, May 18th from 11:30am to 4:30pm. You can call 838-1240 for more information or tickets. You can also send a check with a self-addressed stamped envelope to their office and they will send you tickets. More information is available at their website.
