The Mini-Header Solution: More or Less

For those of you who may have been wondering about the 'favorites' and 'friends' features, those were down momentarily. Now they're back up... or, they will be soon (lower left-hand column), and there is a new toggle box to switch between the two. The search field has also been cleaned up and should be easier to find. Even the print option has been optimized to print out select post and comments.
If you were wondering what the 'tags' were for, they have been added to help users navigate subject matter. Since this is a new feature, the listed words may not bring up many key-related posts at this point, but as tags continue to be added, more and more relevant posts will surface. For example, in the YUM Channel, if you click on Street Cafe, then all other articles on the Street Cafe will be listed (recipes, reviews, etc.). I'll have more information on the ability to track events soon... one thing that you may not have noticed is the ability to have BRO notify you one day in advance of an event. Just click on the 'email me ( 1 day ) in advance' link and the link is replaced with an 'alert added' so that you know BRO will send you an email reminding you to attend the event.
The registration process has been tuned-up too. There are easier directions plus an assortment of icons to choose from. In order to make a comment you must register. Hey, you also get to contact other registered BRO viewers if you have something to say and you don't want to do it publicly. Just leave a note, or look for messages in your BRO 'IN' box. You can list your interests as well- favorite books, movies and music. For example, al-alo's interests read: "common sense, creative ideas, occasionally running for office and whatever wikipedia tells me." (His/her comments have been ranked 217 times with an overall rating of 2.72 out of five) If you dig what al-alo has to say, then you can add him/her as a friend. Mister Chipsâ interests are as follows: "Dismantling historically inaccurate claims and flimsy arguments." (His/her comments have been ranked 155 times with an overall rating of 3.33 out of five) Check out other registered users' profiles and learn a bit more about them by viewing their biographies.
On your personal page you can review all of your past comments and see how other commenters have responded to what you said (the star system). Oh, and don't forget to send a confirmation email to BRO the next time you visit your profile page. This will ensure that we have your legitimate email is registered so you can continue to utilize all of the dashboard profile functions. *In order to confirm that your email address is valid, we will send you an email. You then simply click on the link to confirm the address. It's that simple.
Thanks for helping us out when it comes to optimizing BRO and its functionality. We're pretty happy with it now... even though we are always interested to hear how it could be better.

According to Joy McDuffie, Foreclosure Prevention Specialist at the WNY Law Center, donât believe everything you hear about foreclosures in Buffalo â theyâre still a real problem. McDuffie says many think that Buffalo didnât get hit hard by the sub prime lending market collapse, but that it just isnât true.
âWeâre really trying to help because Buffalo definitely has a foreclosure problem, but there are things that homeowners can do. We actually have a $700,000 two-y …
Medaille was founded in 1875 by the Sisters of Saint Joseph to prepare its members for teaching in diocesan schools. Later, in 1937 the institute was chartered by New York State to grant baccalaureate degrees in education; the college was renamed in honor of Father John Peter Medaille, and the rest is history.
Since its founding, Medaille has grown into a well-known, private, four-year college with their main campus located in the historic Olmsted Crescent in the heart of Buffa …
Since 1994, people have gone on the self-guided âSecrets of Allentownâ tour, discovering the rich history of the area and the beauty of the architecture here in Buffalo. That tour once again returns, and though theyâre willing to tell you the main attraction, to find out the rest of the homes, youâll have to take the tour yourself.
The tour is on Sunday, September 14th and kicks off at the Clement Mansion where the Red Cross is headquartered at 786 Delaware Avenue. There, …
Maybe you read about this one last December, or maybe you took the time and looked over this one in April, and perhaps you considered attending this event back in June. Whatever your reasoning for putting it off, thereâs no time like the present for Forgotten Buffalo, unless of course itâs the past.
Forgotten Buffalo Tours take participants on a journey into the history of the area, always striving to produce a unique and entertaining outing. Their success has allowed them to …

Um, I clicked the little white icon in the top right and get a mini-mini header with the Luxury Apartments story lead in, but now I can't get back to the picture only header. The top right icon is now gone in this tab, and in other tabs there appears that camera icon. If I click that, it doesn't switch back to the mini-header. I'm really surprised no one mentioned that the date no longer appears; I miss that but don't put it back if it slows things down again. Paul

Hey everyone, just to clarify a bit, the only place you don't have the option to control the header is on a page where you are reading the story (like this one). If your on the home page, or a category channel, or anywhere in the new Events channel, you'll see the new header image functionality.

Nope, don't see anyway to switch back to the picture only header on ANY page. There's just that camera icon that appeared after I first clicked to see what would happen if I switched!

Good compromise solution. It proves you listen to your readers.

I like it. The photo banner seems to be a time-honored tradition of this site.

I can't switch back and forth from the mini-header to the story lead-in header in Safari. It worked only once, the very first time when I clicked on the icon and it changed from header to story. If I click on the camera icon in the story lead-in it doesn't do anything. I'm stuck with the story lead-in. However, in Firefox, it works just as I expected and I can switch back and forth with no problem. Being signed in or out makes no difference in either case. Maybe you could fix the Safari set up? Thanks, Paul

Is anybody other that Paul having problems with this? I can't seem to re-create the problems mentioned, and I want to make sure there are no problems with this feature. I've tried both Safari 2 and the beta 3, and a bunch of other browsers before I pushed that live, so needless to say, I'm a bit stumped at the moment.
