The Mansion is an Asset to Buffalo

The Mansion has been welcoming local and international guests as a luxury hotel since 2001, when it opened it's doors.
The Mansion was selected for the award because of the impact it has had on Buffalo. With visitors from around the world, The Mansion gives a strong impression of what Buffalo is all about. "One way in which The Mansion gives guests a view of the city is through their shuttle service they provide for guests to theaters, city dining, downtown galas and dancing. This service gives the guests the opportunity to be exposed to almost every facet of Buffalo life. Additionally, The Mansion is known for sending guests to see the best Buffalo has to offer, including the Darwin Martin House," said Geno Principe, partner of The Mansion.
Recommending places to visit to The Mansion's guests not only helps the Buffalo economy, but "allows guests to form their own opinion about Buffalo not based on national media. Instead their opinion of Buffalo is based on it's a history and culture, which ultimately allows them to return home with a positive attitude and outlook on Buffalo," said Principe.
Furthermore, The Mansion was chosen for the award due to the various contributions The Mansion makes every year to charities and non-for-profit organizations including: Roswell Park and individual benefits.
The hotel has also received many awards for it's superior service. Butlers are available to guests around the clock and Principe describes the superior staff at The Mansion as "having style, being bright, urgent and most of all ready to go above and beyond to meets guests requests".
The Mansion may have many international guests, but it is usually found to be filled with Buffalonians themselves. The hotel accommodates weddings, corporate events, and any social event you can dream up. But, if you don't have an event to celebrate The Mansion can be a great place to escape the hassles of life. With classic rooms starting at $185 and gradually climbing to $350 for a suite, the hotel is a luxurious alternative to everyday life.

Medaille was founded in 1875 by the Sisters of Saint Joseph to prepare its members for teaching in diocesan schools. Later, in 1937 the institute was chartered by New York State to grant baccalaureate degrees in education; the college was renamed in honor of Father John Peter Medaille, and the rest is history.
Since its founding, Medaille has grown into a well-known, private, four-year college with their main campus located in the historic Olmsted Crescent in the heart of Buffa …
Since 1994, people have gone on the self-guided “Secrets of Allentown” tour, discovering the rich history of the area and the beauty of the architecture here in Buffalo. That tour once again returns, and though they’re willing to tell you the main attraction, to find out the rest of the homes, you’ll have to take the tour yourself.
The tour is on Sunday, September 14th and kicks off at the Clement Mansion where the Red Cross is headquartered at 786 Delaware Avenue. There, …
Maybe you read about this one last December, or maybe you took the time and looked over this one in April, and perhaps you considered attending this event back in June. Whatever your reasoning for putting it off, there’s no time like the present for Forgotten Buffalo, unless of course it’s the past.
Forgotten Buffalo Tours take participants on a journey into the history of the area, always striving to produce a unique and entertaining outing. Their success has allowed them to …
Last evening was the first time that I have ever attended the event, Party for the Parks held at the Marcy Casino. The parks gala started up just as the Burchfield-Penney showing was winding down, and has happened more than a few times this summer, the non-stop rain kept everyone guessing. By guessing, I mean that every time the band members would even look at their instruments the rain would start to fall. It was a good thing that the upper terrace was covered and the Marcy Casin …

And to think this was also once, vacant, boarded up and heading to be demolished.. Too bad those darn preservationist Subaru driving hippies people got in the way of progress and held the city back by saving this building...

The Mansion really is an asset to Buffalo. It puts every other hotel in the city to shame, and the celebrity clients it attracts should be direct evidence of this.
An added bonus? It's right by Chris', home of the best sandwich in the entire region (turkey dill), and one of the most incredible collections of stained glass in the world (not at Chris').

On visits home, we have stayed there a few times and it has made all the difference in the world! It used to be, on trips home, that we'd stay at the Hyatt - which had fallen, greatly - or the Holiday Inn or, even, the Lennox. And it just felt like another trip - not a vacation. Once we stayed at the Mansion, the whole feel of the journey changed! There is nothing like consummate service, a wonderful room and a great, stately, atmosphere to elevate a trip. I have stayed in some lovely, older hotels - from the St. Francis in San Francisco to the Waldorf in NY, I tend to seek them out, and the Mansion ranks right up there.
Buffalo needs this hotel if only to give the sense that it is a destination - not a stop on the way to the Falls. Thanks to the staff and management of The Hotel for bringing Buffalo into the Big Leagues in terms of luxury.

as sbrof says, demolition of the Victor Hugo was a real threat. It was vacant for 20+ years. Many thought the prospects of its rehabilitation were remote at best and that the land should be turned over to some better and higher use. Thankfully a white knight did eventually come along to rescue this.

For so long we were fed the line that things will not work in Buffalo..luxury hotel, direct air service, luxury lofts and condos, high end retail and restaurants and even new chain restaurants, but almost every time these types of things make there way here it is met with overwhelming success. Enough with mediocrity and bring on the quality. We have been starved for quality because developers and the likes have underestimated the regions appetite for the better things.

The only thing worse than being constantly told you are not good enough for something is to actually start to believe it.
Taking the Metro down Delaware to high school every weekeday I always day dreamed of what could be done with this wonderful building that was boarded up at the time.
It would be wonderful if its sucess and that of Delaware to the south would spur development on the parking lot on the corner across the street. But it is great to have the parcel what it is today, instead of another parking lot.
I have stayed here also. The 18ft ceilings created an "Alice in Wonderland" effect when looking at the doors in propotion to the rest of the room. The shuttle service had great as was all of the employees.

It was exactly vacant all those years. Homeless people would break-in by throwing chairs through the windows and sleep inside. My office was just to the north at 430 Delaware for 8 years.
Great building, great renovation, great people, great business and great neighbors.

On a different topic last year, a BRO commenter used the term "rocks the cosmo" - not sure exactly what that means, but it sounds just awesome enough to apply to the Mansion, which is certainly one of the jewels in Buffalo's crown. I had a guided tour through (I think with either an owner or manager) during the original Buffalo Old Home Week in 2006, and came away incredibly impressed.
This award is richly deserved, and certainly won't be the Mansion's last.

As many of you know The Mansion has been highly awarded by Tim Zagat's national "Zagat Survey" for a number of years in a row. Feed Your Soul Buffalo has developed a fantastic day long program (Aug. 13th only) that really showcases this.
From our site:
"Join former Food Editor of Buffalo Rising Magazine, Christa Glennie Seychew, and owner of the Mansion on Delaware Avenue, Diana Principe, on an adventure for the palate and the mind.
Feed Your Soul’s small, select group of guests will gather at the Zagat-awarded Mansion on Delaware Avenue (Top Boutique Hotel in the U.S.) for a luxurious continental breakfast before departing from the city in a custom limousine. Arriving at the historic Chautauqua Institution, guests will be greeted by Sandy Starks (founding member of Slow Food Buffalo) and seated in some of the best seats the stunning Amphitheater has to offer. There, they will be treated to a lecture from Mr. Tim Zagat. A man of refined taste and sensibilities, Tim Zagat is best known for co-founding the internationally distributed dining and accommodation Zagat Survey Guides.
When the lecture is over, Feed Your Soul’s guests will convene to The Athenaeum, Chautauqua’s striking 1880s-era hotel, for a special lunch prepared especially for them by CIA-trained chef, Scott Bova. Afterwards, guests will be given the opportunity to roam the breathtaking grounds of the lakeside Institution which is peppered with shops, galleries and Victorian artists’ cottages.
Upon returning to the city, Feed Your Soul’s guests will enjoy a cocktail hour at the Mansion on Delaware Avenue. Tours of Buffalo’s finest hotel will also be available at that time.
Special room rates are available at the Mansion on Delaware Avenue for Feed Your Soul guests that would like to enjoy the splendor of one of the country’s finest hotels."
Sorry for the shameless plug, but Feed Your Soul is so proud to be partnering with the Mansion for this--one of our many upcoming events-- that I just couldn't help myself. You can see our site for more details:(www.feedyoursoulbuffalo.com).

Love the Mansion. Does anyone know if it is profitable for the owners? And on what level?
