T'ai Chi in the Park

Ms. Urbanski is a certified T'ai Chi instructor, Qigong instructor, and Reiki Master. She has trained in Yang style tai chi for 15 years and has taught for the past five years or so at Bill Adam's Martial Arts & Fitness Center. Ms. Urbanski also instructs Weapons of Straight Sword, Broadsword, and Fan and can also provide T'ai Chi instruction for those in wheelchairs.
T'ai Chi has always played in important part in Johnson Park. Our former T'ai Chi Master, Ernest Delt, passed away last year and we've missed both Ernie and his patient instruction. Actually, it has now been revived as Ms. Urbanski had originally contacted us after reading an article on Johnson Park on Buffalo Rising.
New to the concept and practice of T'ai Chi? Read on...
T'ai Chi was developed in ancient China as early as 225 AD. The ancient Chinese believed that the body was filled with energy, or Chi, but Chi could become blocked, causing illness and disease. They believed that a person could help improve the flow of Chi throughout the body and improve health by practicing T'ai Chi exercises. It's been said that T'ai Chi is a combination of moving yoga and meditation.
A person performs T'ai Chi by practicing breathing exercises and a series of slow, graceful, flowing postures (also called poses) simultaneously. The postures consist of movements that are said to improve body awareness and enhance strength and coordination. Many people who practice T'ai Chi say that they feel more peaceful and relaxed after a workout. It is also known to assist with joints, breathing, heart, and many other vital organs.
Instruction is free but donations (suggested donation - $1.00 to $5.00 per session) to the Johnson Park Restoration Fund are welcome.

Carl Paladino is shaking it up once again, and next to the calling for the toll barriers to come down, this may be a hit with the general public.
"I'm asking our legislative candidates to vote for a Constitutional Convention," Paladino said. "This can happen every twenty years, the last time being 1996, but it hasn't been done since 1938."
Paladino's objective, he says, is to get both houses to vote by majority for a referendum on the ballot. This, he explains, would put to vo …
The Nicole Kidman/Studio Arena hoax that recently hit the media is an opportunity for some discussion about the way news travels these days, and begs comment on the phrase "Any publicity is good publicity".
After speaking with someone closely related to Studio Arena, who wishes to stay anonymous, it seems like the Kidman hoax was timed perfectly—in order to circumvent corroboration—and named just the right names in order to look plausible. Add to that the fact that many of t …
For over a decade, PRINT Magazine has been publishing a Regional Design Annual. This homage to graphic design receives more than 20,000 individual entries and only around two hundred are chosen as worthy entries into the yearly publication. They whittle down the entries in a stringent process of selection, picking only 5% of the first-rate winners from each region of the country that represent the best design, illustrations, and photography in the United States. This year, The Mar …
Now that the Senecas have suspended construction on both their embattled Buffalo Creek Casino and an expansion on their Salamanca site, the question is for how long and why.
Seneca Gaming Corporations (SGC) Public Relations Manager Philip Pantano says that the time frame is indefinite and the reason is based on a downturn in casino operations across the country, though he says the Seneca facilities have experienced growth of double-digit increases in the last two quarters.

Great job Marilyn on bringing a cool event to Johnson Park. Our little city park's lend themselves well to events like this. I haven't forgotten about a night a drumming at Johnson Park this summer. I'll stay in touch.

Josh, this happens EVERY Wednesday at 7 pm throughout the nice weather months - with the record highs we've had the past two years, seems we'll be going at least until the last part of October!
