In a matter of just a few days, Allentown will be home to a rather unusual new café. It's going to be unusual for two reasons... the operator is just coming from the show, 'Hell's Kitchen', and the style of food is going to be out of the norm (let's just say words like creative, healthy and fusion come to mind). First things first, it must have been a little tough watching Hell's Kitchen last week, as Buffalo's own Shayna Raichilson-Zadok was tossed by Gordon Ramsay. Chef Ramsay decided Shayna was just too "darn slow" to keep up in Hell's Kitchen.

Well, we in Buffalo are happy to have Shayna back home. She's working quick and steady as the Bohemian Hostess to open the Steel Crazy Café (mid-May). It will be "Bistro" style with, as Shayna says, "...a meld of fresh, and delicious comfort food with a juxtaposition of the hard surroundings of collectible steel-art displayed and for sale." Shayna is a wife as well as a mother of a ten month old. She is seriously, multi- talented with a musical theater background, a tremendous singing voice and a love of cooking. It sounds to me that the new Steel Crazy Café by the Bohemian Hostess will be a feast for all the senses. Open now for hot and cold beverages, plus free WiFi soon to be one of the next chill dining spots in Allentown..

Thank god they are changing. THAT PLACE SUCKS right now.

    The food is OK, but:

    1. Usually you are waited on by some stoned kid who doesn't seem to care you are there. 2. The food comes on paper plates 3. The drinks come in styrofoam cups

Also, the place is always a ghost town, never seen more then 2 table in there, and NO MUSIC!! You just feel out of place the whole time you are there

If they did nothing but get REAL china and GLASS glasses, hire a professional staff, add some ambient music and maybe advertise as being a restaurant more the place would be much better. Maybe a new menu will help.

I agree with 11111inBlo, That place does SUCK! It has such Potential! Great location, courtyard, artwork and an ATM! Wow. The ice cream was $3.25 for a small, small scoop!!! Service was shaddy and was always a long wait, for what? Nothing. I gave it the three strikes then OUT. Let's hope they make something of this "gem".

I gave them a couple tries. The first time was actually really good I thought. Too desert oriented but good. The second time though was a total wash. Take that and the grossness of getting everything on styrofoam both times means I wouldn't go back until they changed. I can't in good conscious go to a place that exclusively uses such environmentally horrid materials.

If the service is that bad, I would'nt want to waist my time there then.

Anything that seems to make it on or around Allen needs to be ultra-eccletic (Jim's notwithstanding, patrons of Allen St would eat take out dog food at 4 AM). Bistro comfort food is a little on the insipid side & why even include "fresh" as a description of the food?

I'd define Bohemian as the crowd that hangs around Bidwell Parkway playing guitars & hacky-sack at night.

This corner is very important to Allentown's commercial district. Granted this storefront has had it's problems especially with staffing, but let's give this incarnation a chance to prove itself on it's own merits. We really need a good business at this anchor location.

This article is pretty badly written. Who (or what) is the "Bohemian Hostess?" Is this a title that this women is giving herself, or the new name of this place, or both?

bohemian traditionally referred to people from bohemia, an old name for czechoslovakia. in a more contemporary sense it usually referrs to someone living an free spirited ,unconventional lifestyle.

colin i agree that the article is confusing. i assume that the bohemian hostess was the name of shayna's catering business. i could easily be wrong in this assumption.

PEOPLE! The Steel Crazy Cafe by Bohemian Hostess is opening TODAY, Tuesday, May 20! All of you who have commented before today about the food really don't know what you're talking about -- that was the old management. Shayna Raichilson-Zadok is the NEW management. I have been at functions catered by Bohemian Hostess Catering and the food was fantastic -- different and very good. Try it out before you comment.
