Rainbow K Expands In Allentown

Story Options

Rainbow K, a 25-year old school formerly located at 388 Franklin Street, is scheduled to open in its new location (433 Franklin) in late September. I've been watching the ongoing progress on their home... the exterior of the building has really come alive. During the school's capital campaign, a newsletter circulated describing the inner-workings of the school - Rainbow K was established to help working families find a Montessori/Piaget based learning environment for their children. Rainbow K students (starting at 3-year olds) stay in the program until they reach the second grade level. From there they are well prepared to move on to other schools, while their parents feel confident that they have acquired the appropriate preparatory tools.

The Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy run the school and secured $500,000 to purchase and complete many of the renovations required for the conversion. The short move meant the Rainbow K could stay in the same Allentown neighborhood that hosted it for so many years. I spoke to Sister Mary Victoria who told me that everyone is very excited to be in the new building. Even though there will only be four additional students (from 41 to 45), there's room for more down the road. Plus there are larger classrooms and even an activity room. The students will have access to their former playground just down the street, so look for those great 'trains' of young people meandering down the sidewalk starting this fall.

Rainbow K is located at 433 Franklin Street in Buffalo. 716-854-5198
